    Notes:

BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. He may be the Thomas Stanton who sailed to Virginia on the ship "Bonaventure" in 1635, age 20. See Peter Wilson Coldham, THE COMPLETE BOOK OF EMIGRANTS (Baltimore, 1987), 121-23 (FHL #973 W2col). Many histories of the Rogers family claim Thomas was first in Virginia for a brief period, although these claims may be a result of the ship list.
MAR: No mar rec found. Thomas's wife is undoubedly the Anna Stanton whose nuncupative will was recorded on 14 Sep 1688. Notice to show cause, 16 Apr 1711, indicates she is the mother of the children of Thomas Stanton proved in other documents (New London District Probate Files, #5038 [FHL #1025050]). The will of Dorothy Lord of Hartford, 8 Feb 1669, proved 14 May 1675, mentions "my daughter Stanton." See abstract from Hartford District Probate in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:215-16 (FHL #974.5 P2m). Although her given name is not mentioned in the will, she is evidently Thomas Stanton's wife Anna, dau of Thomas and Dorothy Lord.
DEATH: Diary of Thomas Minor of Stonington in John A. Miner, ed, THE MINOR DIARIES, STONINGTON, CONNECTICUT, THOMAS 1653 TO 1684, MANASSEH 1696 TO 1720 (Ann Arbor, MI, 1976), 146 (FHL #1036221). Part 1, the diary of Thomas Minor, is a reprint of the 1899 edition. Reference to the exhibition of the estate inv of Thomas Stanton of Stonington, 6 Jun 1678, is found in New London Court of Trials, 3:107 (FHL #005138).
BUR: "Headstone Inscriptions Town of Stonington," Charles R. Hale Collection (typescript, 1934; Conn. State Library, Hartford), Weekapaug Cemetery, #8, p. 54 (FHL #003364).
OCC: Interpreter General for the United Colonies of New England.
