2451 BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR #1: No mar rec found. The will of Nathaniel Dickinson of Hadley, 29 May 1676, proved 26 Sep 1676 mentions a "son" William Gull (Hampshire Co. Probate, 1:180 [FHL #879184]). Since Nathaniel married Ann Gull at Billingborough, below, it is clear that she was previously married to a Gull. The baptism of William Gull at Billingborough, 25 Feb 1620/1, shows that he is the son of John Gull (Billingborough BTs [FHL #421922]). John Gull was buried at Billingborough, 8 Jul 1621 (Ibid). Hence, Ann married (1) John Gull and (2) Nathaniel Dickinson.
MAR #2: Billingborough BTs.
DEATH: No death rec found. Ann was living in Hadley as late as 24 Mar 1670/1 when she sold land with her husband to William Marcum (Hampshire Co. Deeds [Springfield reg], A:92 [FHL #844486]).

2455 BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR #1: No mar rec found. Widow Susannah made oath to the inv of estate of Henry Ambrose of Boston, 19 Nov 1658, Suffolk Co. Probate, #200, (o.s.) 3:129-30 (FHL #584127).
MAR #2: No mar rec found. Ebenezer Ambrose, age 22, released his stepfather, John Severance, from all debts incurred as administrator of the estate of his late father Henry Ambrose, 4 Feb 1664/5 (Old Norfolk Co. Deeds, 2:108 [FHL #873020]). On 8 Apr 1662 John Severance, husband of "hir that was sometimes the wyfe of henry ambross, and now administrator of the estate of said Ambross, deceased," sued Edward Colcord for alienating a parcel of land which had been granted to Henry Ambross by mortgaging the same to Christopher Palmer (RECORDS AND FILES OF THE QUARTERLY COURTS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 9 vols. [Salem, MA, 1911-75], 2:379 [FHL #974.45 P2e]). The oft-published mar date of 2 Oct 1663 is obviously an error.
DEATH: No death rec found. Susannah signed a petition, 22 Jul 1692, in favor of Mrs. Bradbury who was accused of witchcraft. Most, if not all, of the signers were residents of Salisbury (David W. Hoyt, THE OLD FAMILIES OF SALISBURY AND AMESBURY, 3 vols. [Providence, 1897-1916; repr in 1 vol., Baltimore, 1982], 375 [FHL #974.45 D2h]).
NOTE: Susannah may have been a relative of Ruth (Leet) Dalton, widow of Timothy Dalton. Ruth made bequests to various relatives on 22 Mar 1663/4, which included Abigail Ambrose, dau of the wife of John Severance of Salisbury (William H. Whitmore, "The Dalton and Batcheller Pedigree," NEHGR, 27[1873]:364 [FHL #974 B2ne]).

2459 BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR #1: No proof has been found that John Tilley was the husband of Eady, but it seemly highly probable. It is known that John Tilley of Dorchester was married, and that after his death in 1636 his widow is listed as a land owner in Dorchester town recs. See DORCHESTER TOWN RECORDS, 4th Report Boston Record Commissioners (Boston, 1883), 2, 11, 18, 26, 27, 30305, 322 (FHL #974.46/D1 N2d). "Mrs. Tillie" last appears of record in Dorchester on 2 January 1637/8. An Eady Tilly was granted a homelot at Windsor, Conn. on 25 Dec 1640 (Windsor Deeds, 1:30 [FHL #006188]). Most of the original settlers of Windsor came from Dorchester.
MAR #2: No mar rec found. See undated deed of Thomas Dewey, attorney for Nicholas Campe and "his wife Eady formerly Eady Tilly" (Windsor Deeds, 1:25 [FHL #006188]).
DEATH: No death rec found. Eady was living in 1647 when dau Abigail was born, but she was apparently dead by 14 Jul 1652 when Nicholas Camp married Katherine Thompson (VITAL RECORDS OF NEW HAVEN, 2 vols. [Hartford, 1917-24], 1:3 [FHL #974.68 V2v]).

2461 BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR #1: Springfield Vital Records, 1:13 (FHL #185414). The name of William's wife appears to be Johanna "Scant." However, the will of John Searle of Springfield, 21 Dec 1641, proved 20 Apr 1642, bequeaths to "my brother in law William Warrener" (Joseph H. Smith, ed, COLONIAL JUSTICE IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS: THE PYNCHON COURT RECORD [Cambridge, 1961], 212 [FHL #974.4 P2c]). Johanna's surname is often seen in print as Scant.
MAR #2: "Hampshire Records of Births, Marriages, and Deaths" (private ms of John Pynchon), entries for Hadley, p. 223 (FHL #014766). The wife is called Elizabeth "Hitchcock," apparently the widow of Luke Hitchcock of Wethersfield, Conn., who died on 1 Nov 1659. The will of William Gibbons of Hartford, 26 Feb 1654/5, no probate act, mentions his sister "Hidgecock," no doubt the wife of Luke Hitchcock, who witnessed the will. See abstract from Hartford District Probate in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:115-16 (FHL #974.6 P2m).
DEATH: Springfield Vital Records, 1:49 (FHL #185414). Also see the agreement of heirs of William Warriner, 26 Sep 1676, Hampshire Co. Probate, 1:181 (FHL #879184).

2463 BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR #1: Stonington deeds show that Joanna Fleming, wife of Robert Fleming, of Stonington had children Thomas and Mary Rose, to whom she deeded land in Stonington on 18 Jul 1681 (Stonington Deeds, 2:61, 62 [FHL #005593]). These deeds are very faded. See partial transcripts in Alfred L. Holman, BLACKMAN AND ALLIED FAMILIES (Chicago, 1928), 169 (FHL #929.273 B565h). The identity of the father of Thomas and Mary Rose is uncertain. On 20 Sep 1698, Joanna sued Caleb Fobes and Ebenezer Witter for the theft of two pewter dishes, one of which was inscribed with the initials TRJ (Holman, BLACKMAN, 169, citing New London Co. Court recs, 7:219). The initials may stand for Thomas Rose and Joanna, suggesting that Joanna's first husband was named Thomas, which was also the name of their son.
MAR #2: No mar rec found. Robert Fleming of Stonington deeded land to his "son-in-law" (i.e. step-son) Thomas Rose on 8 Dec 1674 (Stonington Deeds, 2:62 [FHL #005593]). Since Thomas is a proved son of Joanna Fleming, it is clear that Robert Fleming married the widow Joanna Rose.
MAR #3: No mar rec found. On 15 Sep 1687 Joanna "Olmstead" acknowledged deeds she made as Joanna Fleming to her children Thomas and Mary Rose, dated 18 Jul 1681, showing that she married third to an Olmstead between 1681 and 1687 (Stonington Deeds, 2:61, 62 [FHL #005593]). The given name of this husband has not been determined.
DEATH: No death rec found. Joanna Olmstead of Preston was a party to a law suit on 20 Sep 1698 (cited above). No further rec.

MAR #1: Swalcliffe par reg by corr, Oxfordshire Archives, Oxford, 29 Jan 1996. Wife Joane is mentioned in a deed from Thomas Faxon of Braintree, Mass. to John Williams of Southwark, Surrey, 17 Sep 1662, SUFFOLK DEEDS, 14 vols. (Boston, 1880-1906), 4:54 (FHL #974.46 R2s).
MAR #2: Samuel A. Bates, ed, RECORDS OF THE TOWN OF BRAINTREE, 1640-1793 (Randolph, MA, 1886), 718 (FHL #974.47/B3 N2b). Wife is called "Sarah Savill widow." She was apparently the widow of William Savill who died at Braintree, 6 Apr 1669 (Ibid, 639). William's will, 19 Feb 1668-26 Aug 1669, mentions a wife Sarah (Suffolk Co. Probate, #501, [o.s.] 6:36 [FHL #584128]). William Savill and Sarah Gannett were married at Braintree, 6 Nov 1655 (Bates, RECORDS OF THE TOWN OF BRAINTREE, 716). It is clear, however, that Sarah was a widow when she married Savill, as Thomas Faxon of Braintree administered the estate of William Mullins of Braintree, 28 Mar 1674, "in the Right of his wife, the sd Mullins being his wifes Father" (Suffolk Co. Probate, [O.S.] 7:356-57 [FHL #584128]). Sarah was apparently the wife of Thomas Gannett of Duxbury and Bridgewater. He was of the later place when he made his will, 19 June 1655-6 Aug 1655, Plymouth Colony Probate, 2:1:12-13 (FHL #567794). The will mentions his wife Sarah. Therefore, Sarah Mullins was successively the wife of Thomas Gannett, William Savill, and Thomas Faxon.
DEATH: Bates, RECORDS OF THE TOWN OF BRAINTREE, 657. Also see the adm of estate of Thomas Faxon of Braintree, 23 Dec 1680, inv 29 Dec 1680, Suffolk Co. Probate, #1158, (o.s.) 9:19,34 (FHL #584129).

MAR #1: The will of Agnes Bignett of Hoxne, widow of Thomas Bignett, 20 May 1552, proved 7 Nov 1552, fails to make any bequest to Thomas's son William, while making bequests to all of the other known children of Thomas Bignett (Archdeaconry Court of Suffolk, reg wills, 16:379 [FHL #096916]). This suggests Agnes is a second wife and not the mother of William, who is probably the eldest son of Thomas.
MAR #2: A wife Agnes is identified in Thomas's will, below. Also see the above discussion.
DEATH: See the will of Thomas Bignett of Hoxne, 16 Jan 1541/2, proved 6 Jun 1547, Archdeaconry Court of Suffolk, reg wills, 15:312 (FHL #096915).

2467 BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR #1: There is no proof that Bridget is the wife of Robert Bodfish. A Bridget Bodfish married Samuel Hinckley, 15 Dec 1657, at Barnstable ("Barnstable, Mass. Vital Records," MAYFLOWER DESCENDANT, 6[1904]:98 [FHL #974.4 D25md]). It is likely that this Bridget is the widow of Robert Bodfish who died in 1651. Samuel Hinckley was an older man with grown children when he married Bridget. They had no children of their own. The wording of Samuel's will also suggests that Bridget was previously married. See the will of Samuel Hinckley of Barnstable, 8 Oct 1662, proved 4 Mar 1662/3, Plymouth Colony Probate, 2:2:2-3 (FHL #567794).
MAR #2: "Barnstable, Mass. Vital Records," MAYFLOWER DESCENDANT, 6(1904):98. The mar is also recorded in Nathaniel B. Shurtleff and David Pulsifer, eds, RECORDS OF THE COLONY OF NEW PLYMOUTH, 12 vols. (Boston,1855-61), 8:44 (FHL #974.4 N2n).
