BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations. George was a servant of Edward Winslow, fellow passenger on the "Mayflower," and signer of the Mayflower Compact in 1620; hence, he was an adult at that time. See "The Mayflower Compact," MAYFLOWER DESCENDANT, 1(1899):77-79 (FHL #974.4D25md).
MAR: No mar rec found. George was single when he emigrated in 1620, but he must have married in Plymouth Colony by 1626. He had a wife Mary and son Zachariah listed in the division of cattle, 22 May 1627 (Nathaniel B. Shurtleff and David Pulsifer, eds, RECORDS OF THE COLONY OF NEW PLYMOUTH, 12 vols. BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations. He is perhaps the son or brother of William Stonestreet of Bethersden, whose estate was administered on 24 Mar 1567 (Archdeaconry Court of Canterbury, Adm Act Books, 18:48 [FHL #189270]). Another possibility is that he is the son Thomas identified in the will of Robert Stonestreet of Pluckley, 22 Feb 1533, proved 11 June 1534[?], Consistory Court of Canterbury, reg wills, 16:42 (FHL #188841).
MAR #1: No mar rec found, and no evidence of the name of this wife. However, Thomasine, the wife named in Thomas's will was apparently not the mother of all of his children. The will of son William Stonestreet calls Thomasine his "mother-in-law," which meant stepmother in the language of the day. Moreover, the youngest son, Daniel, was nearly 30 years younger than his eldest brother, Reuben.

BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations. Henry married and had children baptized at Cambridge beginning in 1615.
MAR #1: St. Mary-the-Great Cambridge BTs (FHL #1818407).
MAR #2: No mar rec found. Although there is no mention of Henry's 2nd wife, he apparently married Elizabeth, widow of Robert Andrews, between 1647 and 1655. The will of Robert Andrews of Ipswich, 1 Mar 1643, proved 26 Mar 1644, mentions a wife Elizabeth and the children of Humphrey Griffin, among others, but he does not explain his relationship to Griffin (THE PROBATE RECORDS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 3 vols. [Salem, MA, 1916-20], 1:27-28 [FHL #974.45 P2p]). Widow Andrews was admonished for reviling her son-in-law Humphrey Griffin on 30 Mar 1647 (RECORDS AND FILES OF THE QUARTERLY COURTS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 9 vols. [Salem, MA, 1911-75], 1:113 [FHL #974.45 P2e]). Humphrey Griffin of Ipswich sold his house and land in Ipswich to Simon Tompson, 9 Feb 1655/6. Henry Pinder witnessed the deed, and Elizabeth Pinder released her claim to the land (Essex Co. Deeds, 25:190 [FHL #866025]). Hence, Robert Andrews' widow married a Pinder between 1647 and 1655. Henry was the only available Pinder, and he was a witness to the 1655 deed. Furthermore, Elizabeth Pinder was called "widow" in a deed to Elizabeth Deare, 31 Jul 1662 (Ipswich Deeds, 3:3 [FHL #873019). Henry died in Feb 1661(/2?).

BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations. John is said to have been a weaver from Chippenham, Wilts (Joshua Coffin, A SKETCH OF THE HISTORY OF NEWBURY [Boston, 1845], 18, 294 [FHL #6050089]). However, John's children were not chr at Chippenham but in the nearby parish of Bromham.

The will mentions a son John in New England, son Robert, an unnamed wife, and unnamed daughters living in England.
OCC: Weaver
NOTE: The family tradition recorded by Coffin is that John Bailey and his son John came to New England in 1635 aboard the "Angel Gabriel," which was shipwrecked in a storm off Pemaquid (now Bristol), Maine. Unwilling to risk the voyage, the wife and other children remained in England. The Essex County court ordered John to bring his family to New England, but in Apr 1649 it was decided that "she utterly refusing to come, [John] shall not be constrained to go over to her, using still what means he may to get her over" (RECORDS AND FILES OF THE QUARTERLY COURTS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 9 vols. Margery was admitted to the Roxbury church in 1633 as the wife of John Johnson (ROXBURY LAND AND CHURCH RECORDS, 6th Report Boston Record Commissioners [Boston, 1881], 79 [FHL #974.461 H2b]).
MAR #3: No mar rec found. In May 1656 the estate of Barnabas Fawer was divided between Eleazer Fawer, his only son, and his widow Grace, now the wife of John Johnson (Nathaniel B. Shurtleff, ed, RECORDS OF THE GOVERNOR AND COMPANY OF THE MASSACHUSETTS BAY, 5 vols. [Boston, 1853-54], 3:401-402 [FHL #974.4 N2s]). The will of Grace Johnson, 21 Dec 1671, proved 29 Dec 1671, directs that her estate be divided between her brothers, Jonathan Negus and Benjamin Negus (Suffolk Co. Probate, misc docket, [o.s.] 7:175-76 [FHL #584128]). Hence, it appears that Grace Negus married (1) Barnabas Fawer, and (2) John Johnson.

BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations. John mentioned his brother Stephen in his will, below. MAR: The will of John Hyde, below, mentions, among others, wife Margaret, son Thomas Hyde, and dau Elizabeth Cartmyle. John Butler was coexecutor of the will. To dau Elizabeth he gave the lease of his manor at Aldbury, Herts. The will of William Butler of Aldbury, 10 Sep 1555, proved 24 Jun 1556, mentions "cousins" John Cartmyle and Thomas Hyde, gentleman of London. The latter was named coexecutor of the will. Also mentioned was his brother John Butler (P.C.C., 9 Ketchyn [FHL #091929]). It seems reasonable to conclude that Margaret, wife of John Hyde, is a sister of William Butler of Aldbury, Herts.
DEATH: Date of death is from i.p.m. of John Hyde made at Dorset, 24 Oct 1545, cited in THE HERTS GENEALOGIST AND ANTIQUARY, 3(1899):258 (FHL #091759). Also see the will of John Hyde of the King's Exchequer, 14 Aug 1543, proved 1 Oct 1545, P.C.C., 36 Pynnyng (FHL #091920).

However, this Richard seems too young to be the ancestor, as most of his siblings were minors in 1520. This identification of Richard's parents is advanced in Benjamin Apthorp Gould, THE FAMILY OF ZACCHEUS GOULD (Lynn, MA, 1895), 2-4 (FHL #929.273 G738g). Gould gave Richard a birth year of about 1479, which still makes him a generation older than most of his siblings.
