BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations. Robert is the brother of Thomas Barnard of Salisbury, Mass. See deed from Eleanor Little of Newbury, widow of Thomas Barnard, to "my sister" Joan Barnard, widow of Robert Barnard of Nantucket, 3 Sep 1685 (Nantucket Co. Deeds, 2:20 [FHL #906232]).

Robert and Joan Barnard sold land at Andover to Simon Bradstreet, 8 Jun 1667 (Essex Co. Deeds, 12:60 [FHL #866020]). She is called Joan Harvey in the William C. Folger Collection at Nantucket Historical Association. See reference in VITAL RECORDS OF NANTUCKET, 5 vols. (Boston, 1925-28), 5:47 (FHL #974.497/N1 V2n). Date of mar is an approximation.

BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations. Roger married and had children baptized at Dartmouth, Devonshire. He may be the son of Thomas Deering baptized as Dartmouth St. Savior's in 1619. The given name of the child and the complete date are now illegible because of tears in the BT. George Deering posted a bond for the appearance of Roger Deering, 7 Apr 1702, when he was charged with failure to go home to his wife (PROVINCE AND COURT RECORDS OF MAINE, 6 vols. BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations. Stephen was living on the property of his brother John Hyde at Hyde in the parish of Lodres, Dorset about 1544. See abstract of rental survey in THE HERTS GENEALOGIST AND ANTIQUARY, 3(1899):257 (FHL #091759). That he is a son of John Hyde is suggested by the epitaph of his dau Margaret, wife of Robert Mohun, in the parish church of Fleet, Dorset. The arms of Hyde and Mohun are displayed above the epitaph. See John Hutchins, THE HISTORY AND ANTIQUITIES OF THE COUNTY OF DORSET, 2 vols. (Westminster, 1863), 2:743 (FHL #Q942.33 H2hu). The arms of Hyde are those granted to John Hyde on 22 Dec 1525. BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations. Stonington Deeds show that Joanna Fleming, wife of Robert Fleming, of Stonington had children Thomas and Mary Rose, to whom she deeded land in Stonington on 18 Jul 1681 (Stonington Deeds, 2:61,62 [FHL #005593]). These deeds are very faded. See partial transcripts in Alfred L. Holman, BLACKMAN AND ALLIED FAMILIES (Chicago, 1928), 169 (FHL #929.273 B565h). The identity of the father of Thomas and Mary Rose is uncertain. On 20 Sep 1698, Joanna sued Caleb Fobes and Ebenezer Witter for the theft of two pewter dishes, one of which was inscribed with the initials TRJ (Holman, BLACKMAN, 169, citing New London Co. Court recs, 7:219). The initials may stand for Thomas Rose and Joanna, suggesting that Joanna's first husband was named Thomas, which was also the name of their son.
MAR: No mar rec found. See discussion, above.

The name of Thomas's wife is not mentioned on chr rec of dau Sarah, but she is almost certainly the widow Mercy Marshfield who was buried at Springfield, 30 Sep 1654 (Springfield Vital Records, 1:47 [FHL #185414]). Court recs, 29/30 May 1649, indicate that she was formerly of Windsor, where Thomas Marshfield lived (COLONIAL JUSTICE IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS: THE PYNCHON COURT RECORD [Cambridge, 1961], 219-220 [FHL #974.4 P2c]). Thomas Marshfield's family was the only family of his surname in New England. For additional evidence, see Douglas Richardson, "Thomas Marshfield's Wife Mercy," TAG, 67(1992):11-14 (FHL #973 D25aga).
DEATH: No death rec found. Thomas appears to have been living but had left the Conn. colony by 14 Oct 1642. See J. H. Trumbull and Charles J. BIRTH: Date and place of birth are from his Revolutionary War pension file, National Archives, #W1458 (FHL #971761). David is identified in the will his father, David Moore of Exeter, RI, 7 Nov 1804, proved 2 Jan 1806, Exeter Probate, 7:98 (FHL #932355).
MAR #1: No mar rec found. David had a son David born in 1772. See guardianship, 28 Feb 1787, Windsor Co. Probate (Hartford District), 1:4, paginated from back of vol. (FHL #029160). David Moore's, Jr, gravestone inscription shows that he was aged 72 at death on 1 Jan 1845; hence, he was born in 1772. This was ten years prior to the first known mar rec of David Moore, Sr, suggesting an earlier wife. She was probably a Mosher. Eber Mosher of Sharon, Vermont was guardian of David Moore (b. 1772). Eber previously lived in Richmond, RI. Eber's wife, a distant cousin, was Ede Mosher. It is likely that David Moore (b. 1752) was 1st married to a sister of Eber Mosher or a sister of Eber's wife Ede, also surnamed Mosher. See Mildred (Mosher) Chamberlain and Laura (McGaffey) Clarenbach, DESCENDANTS OF HUGH MOSHER (Madison, WI, 1990), 33-34, 49-50 (FHL #929.273 M853cm).
