BIRTH: No birth rec found. Hannah is undoubtedly the dau of Rev. John Howse of Eastwell, the only family of this name in the parish when Hannah was married there in 1610. She is called "of Eastwell" on mar lic, below. In the recs of his church, Rev. John Lothrop, husband of Hannah Howse refers to Elizabeth Hammond, wife of Samuel Howse, as "sister," and to Robert Linnell as "brother." Samuel House and Pennina, wife of Robert Linnell, are proved children of Rev. John Howse of Eastwell. See "Scituate and Barnstable Church Records," NEHGR, 9(1855):280, 286 (FHL #974.4 M25md).
MAR: Eastwell par reg (FHL #1473755 item 2). Also see Joseph Meadows Cowper, ed, CANTERBURY MARRIAGE LICENCES, 6 vols. (Canterbury 1892-1906), 1:266 (FHL #942.23 V25c). Hannah is called a virgin of Eastwell, and Lothrop was curate of Egerton. License is dated 10 Oct 1610.
DEATH: No death rec found. Hannah's death is mentioned in Nathaniel Morton, NEW ENGLAND'S MEMORIAL (Plymouth, MA, 1826), 257 (FHL #1421589 item 3). Morton was a contemporary of John Lothrop. Sedgley, GENEALOGY OF THE BURBANK FAMILY (Farmington, ME, 1928), 370 (FHL #929.273 B891s). Helen is enumerated with her husband Charles Smith in the Tyler Burbank household, 1850 U.S. census of Sharon, Vermont, p. 101, dwelling 180 (FHL #444929). She is listed as 18 yrs old, born in Vermont. Although Towne and Sedgley state that Helen was born in Claremont, NH, this seems unlikely. First, Helen stated in the 1850 census she was born in Vermont. Second, a deed from her father Tyler Burbank to Eliphalet Fales, dated 20 Mar 1832, shows that Tyler was living in Pomfret the year Helen was born (Pomfret Deeds, 8:312 [FHL #028670]). Furthermore, the 1830 and 1840 U.S. censuses show that Tyler Burbank was living in Pomfret.
MAR: No mar rec found. Helen is called the wife of Chester N. Smith by Sedgley, BURBANK GENEALOGY, 370. Husband is called Charles Chester Smith in Towne, "Descendants of William and Joanna (Blessing) Towne". The 1850 U.S. census of Sharon, above, calls him Charles Smith (FHL #444929). Charles was said to have died in 1900 in Sherbrooke, Quebec per Sedgely and Towne. Reg of Plymouth Trinity United Church of Sherbrooke, 2:68, show that Charles Frederick Smith died on 5 Apr 1900 (FHL #1398895).

In this will Mary mentions her son-in-law Charles Dickinson but does not mention Hester, who was apparently dead at this time. BIRTH: No birth rec found. Isaac is identified in the will of his father, John Lawrence of Groton, 24 Apr 1667, proved 1 Oct 1667, Middlesex Co. Probate Files, 1st series, #13715 (FHL #416790). Date of birth is based on birth order of children suggested by father's will and the known residence of the family at Watertown. The age of Isaac on death rec, below, suggests a birth year of 1657/8, but this conflicts with the known birth date of his brother Zachariah.

BIRTH: No birth rec found. John Day is identified as the youngest son of Editha, wife of John Maynard of Hartford, in the latter's will, 23 Jan 1657/8, no probate act, Hartford District Probate, abstracted in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:137-38 (FHL #974.6 P2m). Editha was previously the wife of Robert Day of Hartford, as shown by his will, 20 May 1648, no probate act, Hartford District Probate (Manwaring, DIGEST,1:6). Hence, John was the son of Robert and Editha Day. Date and place of birth are approximations based on family chronology and known residence of parents in Hartford. John was said to be under 21 yrs old in the will of his uncle, Edward Stebbing of Hartford, 24 Aug 1663-3 Sep 1668, Hartford District Probate, 3:52-54 (FHL #004572). Therefore, John was born after 24 Aug 1642.
MAR #1: No mar rec found, but it seems likely that his first wife was the Mary Day mentioned in the will of his aunt Frances Stebbing of Hartford, 20 May 1670, proved 20 Jan 1673/4, to whom she gave some clothing (Manwaring, DIGEST, 1:238). No other adult Mary Day has been identified (John's sister Mary then being Mary Ely).
