BIRTH: No birth rec found. Mary is identified in the articles of agreement of the heirs of her father, Thomas Meakins of Hatfield, 2 Mar 1688/9 (Hampshire Co. Probate 2:49 [FHL #879184]). Date of birth is an approximation. Some have supposed that it was Mary, not Sarah, who was born at Braintree on 24 Apr 1641. See Winifred L. Holman, "The Meakins Lineage" (typescript, 1958-60; NEHGS, Boston), 16. However, there is no evidence to suggest such a clerical error. It is equally possible that Mary was born between siblings Thomas and Hannah.

MAR #2: Northampton Vital Records, 1:97 (FHL #186161). Wife is called widow.

NOTE: It is often published that Mary married Samuel Belding as her 3rd husband. See, for instance, Horatio D. Allis, GENEALOGY OF WILLIAM ALLIS (Hartford, 1919), 6, 7 (FHL #874219). This seems unlikely because she was called Mary "Allis" in the agreement of heirs in 1705, above. No evidence of a 3rd mar has been found.

The widow Nicarson is clearly Mary, widow of Nicholas Nicarson (Nickerson), who was appointed to adm the estate of her late husband, Oct 1682, in the probate entry immediately preceding the land division of John Derby (Plymouth Colony Probate, 4:2:32 [FHL #567794]). Date and place of Mary's birth are approximations. John Derby was in Plymouth in 1637 and was in Yarmouth by 1643 when he appeared on a list of men, aged 16-60, able to bear arms (Nathaniel B. Shurtleff and David Pulsifer, eds, RECORDS OF THE COLONY OF NEW PLYMOUTH, 12 vols. [Boston, 1855-61], 8:194 [FHL #974.4 N2n]). Mary was probably born in Yarmouth.
MAR: No mar rec found. See discussion, above.
DEATH: Robert M. Sherman and Ruth Wilder Sherman, comps, VITAL RECORDS OF YARMOUTH, 2 vols. (Warwick, RI, 1975), 1:131 (FHL #974.492/Y1 V2s). Called "widow Nickerson."
