BIRTH: No birth rec found. Mary is listed with her family on the passenger list of the ship "Truelove" to New England in 1635, age 14 (Peter Wilson Coldham, THE COMPLETE BOOK OF EMIGRANTS, 1607-1660 [Baltimore, 1987], 167 [FHL #973 W2col]). Her age is probably a little understated, as no Mary Tomkins baptism is found at Wendover 1620-1622. Wendover BTs for 1619 are missing.
MAR: No mar rec found. However, it is clear from the estate records of Ralph Tomkins of Salem, 1666, that John Foster was married to one of Tomkins' daughters (THE PROBATE RECORDS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 3 vols. [Salem, MA, 1916-20], 2:76-76 [FHL #974.45 P2p]). Of the 2 daughters of Ralph Tomkins who emigrated to New England on the ship "Truelove" in 1635, it is suspected that it was Mary who became the wife of John Foster, as he named his first daughter Mary, and Mary was closer in age to John Foster, Elizabeth being about five years older than John.
DEATH: No death rec found. Mary was dead by 1657 when her husband was married to his second wife. It is assumed that she died at Salem where the family resided.

BIRTH: No birth rec found. Mary, wife of Robert Day, is on the passenger list of the ship "Elizabeth" from Ipswich, aged 28 yrs, dated 30 Apr 1634. She was probably born in Co. BIRTH: No birth rec found. Mercy is identified in the will of her father, David Moore of Exeter, 7 Nov 1804, proved 2 Jan 1806, Exeter Probate, 7:98 (FHL #932355). Date and place of birth are approximations based on family chronology and probable age at marriage.

It is clear from the will of widow Mary Jewett of Bradford, 8 Jul 1738, proved 27 July 1741, that she was 1st married to a Green, 2nd to Nathaniel Gage, and 3rd to a Jewett, as the will mentions her Green children and the two children of Nathaniel Gage as her own (Essex Co. Probate, [o.s.] 324:513-514 [FHL #875132]). Also see the deed from Thomas Green of Bradford, son and heir of Thomas Green, late of Malden, to John Bunker of Cambridge, 30 Dec 1699 (Middlesex Co. Deeds, 12:414 [FHL #554004]). In this document Mary Gage, widow of Thomas Green, late of Malden, relinquished her right to the property. The wife of Nathaniel Gage is apparently Mary Weeks who married Thomas Green at Malden, 22 Mar 1675/6. Thomas died there, 28 Apr 1693 (Deloraine P. Corey, comp, BIRTHS, MARRIAGES AND DEATHS IN THE TOWN OF MALDEN [Cambridge, MA, 1903], 237, 346 [FHL #974.44/M2 V2b]).

BIRTH: No birth rec found. Nehemiah is identified in the will of his father, Anthony Bessie of Sandwich, 10 Feb 1656, proved 3 Jun 1657, Plymouth Colony Probate, 2:1:51 (FHL #567794). He is also identified in the will of his mother, Jane Barlow of Sandwich, 6 Aug 1693-4 Oct 1693, Barnstable Co. Probate, 1:86 (FHL #904598). On 2 Aug 1664 the Plymouth Court ordered that Nehemiah Bessie of Sandwich, having arrived at full age, could receive his father's inheritance (Nathaniel B. Shurtleff and David Pulsifer, eds, RECORDS OF THE COLONY OF NEW PLYMOUTH, 12 vols. [Boston, 1855-61], 4:70 [FHL #974.4 N2n]). Hence, Nehemiah was born about 1643. In 1643 his father was on the list of those men able to bear arms for the town of Sandwich (Ibid, 8:192). It is believed, therefore, that Nehemiah was born in Sandwich.
MAR: No mar rec found. Children of Nehemiah Bessie and his wife Mary were born at Sandwich. She is no doubt the dau of Robert Ranson of Plymouth, whose inv of estate, 22 Dec 1697, includes items given to his grandson Nehemiah Bessie (Plymouth Co. Probate, 1:279-80 [FHL #550708]).

BIRTH: No birth rec found. No documentary evidence has been found that Elizabeth is a dau of John Derby. However, no other Derby family was in the colony into which Elizabeth could fit. Elizabeth married at Barnstable in 1665, during which time John Derby's widow was residing there as the wife of Abraham Blush. Furthermore, Elizabeth's husband is the brother of Jabez Lumbert, who married Sarah, a proven dau of John Derby. Date and place of Elizabeth's birth are approximations. John Derby was in Plymouth about 1637 and was in Yarmouth by 1643, when he appeared on a list of men, aged 16-60, able to bear arms (Nathaniel B. BIRTH: No birth rec found. No proof has been found that Abia is Bernard's daughter. However, Abia cannot fit into any other Lumbert family in the colony. The only other Lumbert in the colony old enough to have had Abia was Thomas, father of Bernard. But he mentions no dau of this name in his will. See the will of Thomas Lumbert of Barnstable, 23 Mar 1662, proved 7 Mar 1664, Plymouth Colony Probate, 2:2:24-26 (FHL #567794). Abia was almost certainly born before 19 Apr 1635, when Bernard Lumbert joined Rev. John Lothrop's church at Scituate. Otherwise she would have been baptized in Lothrop's church, as her younger siblings were ("Scituate and Barnstable Church Records," NEHGR, 9[1855]:279-282 [FHL #974 B2ne]). Her birth in Dorchester is suggested by the residence of the family there from 1630-1634. Bernard Lumbert was made a freeman of the Massachusetts Colony on 1 Apr 1634 with twelve others, most of whom were Dorchestermen. The rest were from Boston and Roxbury (Nathaniel B.
