BIRTH: No birth rec found. Samuel Rogers, son of James, deeded land to Francis Hall, 16 Feb 1662, received from his grandfather Samuel Rowland. See Stratford, Conn. Deeds, 1:175 (orig 1:99) (FHL #005770). Elizabeth, widow of James Rogers, appointed son John Rogers and dau Bathshua Smith to oversee the estate of her late husband, 15 Sep 1688 (New London Probate Files, #4520 [FHL #1025044]). It is clear that Elizabeth, dau of Samuel Rowland, married James Rogers. Date and place of birth are approximations.

DEATH: No death rec found. Elizabeth probably died shortly before 5 Dec 1709 when the estate of James Rogers was re-inventoried and new administrators were appointed (New London Probate, A:455 [FHL #005111]). Also see the estate file of James Rogers, New London Probate Files, #4520 (FHL #1025044).

BIRTH: No birth rec found. Samuel's parentage is based on circumstantial evidence. Samuel resided in Westfield, where Samuel Loomis, Sr, settled abt 1674. He purchased land from Elizabeth, widow of Samuel Loomis, Sr, 29 May 1717 "on consideration moving me thereunto." The land bordered that of Benjamin and William Loomis, proved sons of Samuel Loomis, Sr (Hampshire Co. Deeds [Springfield Reg], C:255 [FHL #844487]). His age is consistent with the chronology of the family of Samuel and Elizabeth Loomis, and there was no other Loomis family in Westfield of this age. Date and place of birth are approximations.

BIRTH: No birth rec found. Sarah (Walker) Warren, wife of Nathaniel Warren of Plymouth, and dau of William Walker of Southwark, Surrey, is called "grandchild" by Mrs. Jane Collier, wife of William Collier of Plymouth, Mass. (Plymouth Colony Deeds, 2:1:73-65 [FHL #567789]). She was apparently the Jane Clark who married William Collier at St. Olave, Southwark, Surrey, 16 May 1611 (St. Olave, Southwark par reg transcript, 51 [FHL #416709]). Although the mar rec does not call her widow, Jane must have been previously married to a Clark, as none of her Collier daughters were old enough to have been the wife of William Walker. It is believed, therefore, that Jane had a dau by her first husband Clark, who became the wife of William Walker. For supporting articles, see John G. Hunt, "Origin of Three Early Plymouth Families: Cole, Collier, and Clarke,"TAG, 42(1966):119-21 (FHL #973 D25aga); Robert S. BIRTH: No birth rec found. Sarah and her brother Joseph were baptized in the Salem 1st Church on 3 Sep 1648, but no parents names are mentioned. Sarah is listed as the yougest dau on the petition to settle the estate of her late father, William Towne of Salem, 17 Jan 1682/3 (THE PROBATE RECORDS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 3 vols. [Salem, MA, 1916-20], 2:358 [FHL #974.45 P2p]). She was probably born in Salem where the family settled after leaving Gt. Yarmouth, Norfolk. Sarah's baptism is not found in Gt. Yarmouth par regs with her elder siblings.
CHR: VITAL RECORDS OF SALEM, 3 vols. (Salem, MA, 1916-25), 2:355 (FHL #974.45/S1 V2e). Parents are not identified in this document.
MAR #1: VITAL RECORDS OF TOPSFIELD, 2 vols. (Topsfield, MA, 1903-16), 1:194 (FHL #974.45/T1 V2v).
MAR #2: No mar rec found. Sarah, wife of Peter Cloyse, is called sister of Mary Esty (a proved dau of William Towne) in petition to the "Special Court," prosecuting witchcraft cases in Salem, [1692]. The document is quoted in full in Charles W. Upham, SALEM WITCHCRAFT, 2 vols. (1867; repr Williamstown, MA, 1971), 2:326 (FHL #974.45/S1 H2u). Sarah, like her sisters Mary and Rebecca, was convicted of witchcraft, but Sarah escaped the gallows when the witch hunt waned late in 1692. Her mar to Peter Cloyse was after 17 Jan 1682/3, the date the heirs of William Towne petitioned for settlement of his estate, as she is called Sarah Bridges in this document. Hence, the mar occurred, 1683-1692.
DEATH: No death rec found. Sarah was dead by 2 Jan 1704 when her husband Peter Cloyse married Susanna Beers at Watertown (VITAL RECORDS OF FRAMINGHAM [Boston, 1911], 259 [FHL #974.44/F1 V2b]).

Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:137-38 (FHL #974.6 P2m). Editha was previously the wife of Robert Day of Hartford, as shown by his will, 20 May 1648, no probate act, Hartford District Probate (Ibid, 1:6). Hence, Sarah was the dau of Robert and Editha Day. Date and place of birth are approximations based on family chronology and known residence of parents in Hartford.
MAR #1: Springfield Vital Records, 1:14 (FHL #185414).
MAR #2: Ibid, 1:14. Wife is called "widow." The mar is also recorded in "Hampshire Records of Births, Marriages, and Deaths" (private ms of John Pynchon), entries for Springfield, p. 58 (FHL #014766). Husband was "of Hadley."
DEATH: "Births, Marriages, and Deaths, [Hampshire] County Court," entries for Hatfield, p. 110 (FHL #760648). Sarah was killed by the Indians with son Joseph in the last assault on Hatfield. BIRTH: No birth rec found. Sarah is identified as a 17-year-old dau in the inv of estate of her father, Matthew Woodruff of Farmington, 18 Nov 1691, Hartford District Probate, abstracted in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:526-27 (FHL #974.6 P2m). Her place of birth is unclear. The family was in Milford as late as 1673 when Sarah's brother John was born. Matthew and wife joined the Congregational Church at Farmington on 1 Mar 1678/80 (Farmington 1st Congregational Church recs, 1:101 [FHL #004241]).
MAR: No mar rec found. Henry Summer and wife Sarah deeded their inheritance from "uncle" Robert Plum to John Woodruff, 14 Mar 1703/4 (See Milford, Conn. Deeds, 3:331 [FHL #004918]). The will of Robert Plume of Milford, 3 Dec 1703, proved 7 Feb 1703/4, calls John Woodruff "cousin" and gives to "my sister's children" (New Haven District Probate, 3:8 [FHL #005295]). Nathaniel is a proved son of Richard Warren. See settlement of estate of Richard Warren of Plymouth, 11 June 1653, Plymouth Colony Deeds, 2:1:73-75 (FHL #567789).
