4213 BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Augustine is identified as a son of Henry and an unknown 1st wife in Sir Henry Chauncey, HISTORICAL ANTIQUITIES OF HERTFORDSHIRE (London, 1700), 62 (FHL #Q942.58 V22c). Chauncey's pedigree was compiled during the life of Justinian Sherburne, a nephew of Augustine. It is presumably through him that Chauncey received his information. Augustine was 16 yrs old when he matriculated at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, 2 Jul 1585 (Joseph Foster, ALUMNI OXONIENSES, 1500-1714, 4 vols. [Oxford, 1891-92], 3:1347 [FHL #942.57/O1 J2ox]).
MAR: Chauncey's pedigree, above, indicates Augustine's wife was one Willoughby of the city of York, given name unknown. Augustine's estate was administered in 1611 by widow Elizabeth, below. It is assumed she is Elizabeth Willoughby, as Chauncey's pedigree mentions no other wives for Augustine.
BUR: Par reg of St. Martin's York (FHL #1068436 item 4). Also see the adm of estate of Augustine Sherburne of York, 20 Apr 1611, Act Book of the Exchequer Court of York, City of York, 1608-1626, vol. 1A (FHL #100001).

4215 BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Avis is identified in the will of her father, John Foote of Royston, Cambs, n.d., proved 18 Jul 1558, P.C.C., 34 Noodles (FHL #091931). Date of birth is an approximation. She is called "Alice" in the will of her brother, below, and on her mar rec. Avis/Alice was very likely born in Royston, where her father died in 1558, and where her brother John stated that he was born in his will.
MAR: She is called "Alice Sawle" in the will of her brother, John Foote of London, 17 Nov 1616, proved 4 Dec 1616, P.C.C., 127 Cope (FHL #092067). Based on this unusal name, it appears likely that she is the Alice "Fote" who married William Solye at Stourmouth, Kent, 23 Oct 1575 (Stourmouth par reg [FHL #1836140 item 14]).

MAR #1: No mar rec found. Children of John Bullard and his wife Magdalene were baptized at Barnham St. Martin, Suffolk (1635-1636/7) and Dedham, Mass. (ca 1639-1648). For speculation that Magdalene is a dau of John Martyn of Barnham, see John Plummer, "The Martyn Wives of Robert and John Bullard," NEHGR, 146(1992): 279-80 (FHL #974 B2ne). 4223 BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Barnham par regs for this period are lost, and only scattered BTs have survived. Date of birth is calculated from age "about 85" given in his own will, dated 5 Jul 1679, below. He was very likely born at Barnham where his parents lived and had children baptized.
MAR #1: No mar rec found, and no rec found which gives us her name. But four children of William Bullard by this unknown wife were born, 1629/1630-ca 1636.
MAR #2: A partial mar entry is found in Thomas W. Baldwin, comp, VITAL RECORDS OF CAMBRIDGE, 2 vols. (Boston, 1914-15), 2:58 (FHL #974.44/C1 V2b). The record calls her Mary and gives no mar date except "16__." A wife Mary is identified in William's will, below. She was apparently the widow of Francis Grissell of Cambridge as shown by a deed from Jonas Palmer and Elizabeth Palmer, both of Rehoboth, to William Bullard of Charlestown, 9 Nov 1655 (Middlesex Co. Deeds, 1:152 [FHL #554000]). Francis Grissell died in Charlestown, 2 Oct 1652. Therefore, the marriage must have occurred between 1652 and 1655.
DEATH: Robert Brand Hanson, ed, VITAL RECORDS OF DEDHAM, 3 vols. (Bowie, MD, 1989), 2:25 (FHL #974.47/D2 V2hr). 4225 BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Bernard is identified in the will of his father, Thomas Lumbert of Barnstable, 23 Mar 1662/3, proved 7 Mar 1664, Plymouth Colony Probate, 2:2:24-25 (FHL #567794). Bernard deposed, "aged sixty yeares or therabouts," in 1668 concerning the nuncupative will of William Clark, Plymouth Colony Probate, 2:2:50 (FHL #567794).
MAR: No mar rec found. Robert S. Wakefield suggests that Bernard may have married a dau of William Clark of Yarmouth, whom Bernard called "Father Clark" during testimony on 20 Feb 1668/9 concerning William Clark's nuncupative will, above. See Wakefield, "Lombard Family of Barnstable," TAG, 52(1976):139 (FHL #973 D25aga). However, it seems more likely that the term "father" was used only in deference to William's age, as no bequests were made to Bernard, his wife, or children. The entire estate went to Joseph Benjamin.
DEATH: No death rec found. Bernard was living in Barnstable as late as 29 May 1670, when he was proposed as freeman (Nathaniel B. Shurtleff and David Pulsifer, eds, RECORDS OF THE COLONY OF NEW PLYMOUTH, 12 vols. [Boston, 1855-61], 5:227 [FHL #974.4 N2n]).

4234 BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Catherine is identified in the will of her father, Clement Palmer of Townstall, 20 Dec 1656, proved 20 Apr 1659, P.C.C., 221 Pell (FHL #092256). She is also mentioned in the will of her mother, Sarah Palmer of Townstall, 12 Aug 1665, proved 14 Jun 1667, Archdeaconry Court of Totnes, abstracted in Charles E. Banks ms (FHL #1550098). The recs of this court were destroyed in 1942. Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR: "Extracts from the Marldon (Devon) Register" (typescript, n.d.), 33 (FHL #974.35/M4 V26m). In this transcript the husband is called "Ezra? Butchers." However, the will of Sarah Palmer, cited above, mentions grandchildren Clement and Jezreel Butchers. The baptisms of these two in Townstall on 8 Jul 1659 and 17 Feb 1661/2, respectively, show that their father is "Jezreel" Butchers (V. C. Langford and R. Ley, comps, "Townstall, Dartmouth Parish Register," 2 vols. [transcript, n.d.; Devon & Cornwall Record Society], 1:5,6 [FHL #917194]). Also see bur rec, below.

4241 BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Christopher is identified in will of his father, Alexander Buckler of Woolcombe Matravers, parish of Melbury Bubb, 24 Feb 1567, proved 30 Mar 1568, P.C.C., 6 Babington (FHL #091946). Buckler, Christopher (I6862)

4242 BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Consider is identified as the "second son" in the settlement of estate of his father, Humphrey Atherton of Dorchester, 9 Oct 1717, Suffolk Co. Probate, #275, (o.s.) 20:63-65 (FHL #584134). Therefore, he was born between Jonathan (1629) and Increase (1641/2). It is unlikely that he was born between Rest (1639) and Increase (1641/2). His chr is not recorded in Dorchester, where the family settled in 1636. He was probably born in England about 1634 but perhaps a little later in New England.

4243 BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Daniel is believed to be a son of Robert and Mary Pond because he was chosen guardian to Mercy Pond, minor dau of Robert Pond (son of Robert and Mary) on 5 May 1675 (Suffolk Co. Court Files, #1386 [FHL #911127]). The younger Robert identified William Pond as his brother in his will, 19 Oct 1662, proved 13 May 1663, Suffolk Co. Probate, #339, (n.s.) 2:288-91 (FHL #594359). William is almost certainly a son of Robert Pond, Sr, by reason of William's petition to the General Court with the widow Mary Pond for adm of Robert Pond's estate on 10 May 1648 (Nathaniel B. Shurtleff, ed, RECORDS OF THE GOVERNOR AND COMPANY OF THE MASSACHUSETTS BAY, 5 vols. [Boston, 1853-54], 2:246 [FHL #974.4 N2s]). It is also significant that Daniel's 1st wife was his step-sister, the dau of Edward Shephard, his mother's 2nd husband. Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR #1: No mar rec found. The 1st wife of Daniel Pond is identified as Abigail Shephard in the will of her father, Edward Shephard of Cambridge, 1 Oct 1674, proved 20 Jun 1680, Middlesex Co. Probate Files, 1st series, #20271 (FHL #421517).
