4352 BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. He is called "my eldest son Thomas Walley deceased" in the will of his father, Rev. Thomas Walley of Barnstable, 10 Dec 1677, proved 5 Mar 1677/8, Plymouth Colony Probate, 3:2:115 (FHL #567794). Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR: No mar rec found. Thomas's will, below, mentions his wife Hannah and his children's grandfather, Nathaniel Bacon.
DEATH: No death rec found. See the will of Thomas Walley, Jr, of Sandwich, 2 May 1672, proved 7 Jun 1672, Plymouth Colony Probate, 3:1:48 (FHL #567794).
Walley, Thomas (I6622)

4353 BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. He is perhaps the John Lumace chr at Thaxted, Essex, 29 Jan 1562 (no parents listed), who is perhaps the son of John Lummys of Thaxted, whose will, proved 12 May 1567, mentions his children without naming them. This is the conclusion published in Elias Loomis, DESCENDANTS OF JOSEPH LOOMIS IN AMERICA, rev by Elisha S. Loomis (New Haven, CT, 1875; rev edition Fresno, CA, 1981), 86 (FHL #929.273 L873Le). Although possible, there is not adequate evidence to support this conclusion. Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR: No mar rec found. The will of John Lyngwood of Braintree, 6 Apr 1597, proved 3 May 1597, mentions "my son-in-law" John Lomes and his children Mary and Joseph (Commissary Court of the Bishop of London [Essex & Herts Div], orig wills, 24:2 [FHL #094375]). John's will, below, calls his wife Agnes. Hence, it is believed that John Loomis married Agnes, dau of John Lyngwood.
DEATH: No death/bur rec found (Braintree recs are lost before 1660). See the will of John Loomis of Braintree, 14 Apr 1619, proved 21 Jun 1619, Commissary Court of the Bishop of London (Essex & Herts Div), orig wills, 24:198 (FHL #094375). Also See F. G. Emmison, EARLY ESSEX TOWN MEETINGS(London, 1970), 1, which shows John Loomys, one of the parish vestrymen, was dead by 3 May 1619 (FHL #942.67 K2e).

4354 BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. He may be the Thomas Stanton who sailed to Virginia on the ship "Bonaventure" in 1635, age 20. See Peter Wilson Coldham, THE COMPLETE BOOK OF EMIGRANTS (Baltimore, 1987), 121-23 (FHL #973 W2col). Many histories of the Rogers family claim Thomas was first in Virginia for a brief period, although these claims may be a result of the ship list.
MAR: No mar rec found. Thomas's wife is undoubedly the Anna Stanton whose nuncupative will was recorded on 14 Sep 1688. Notice to show cause, 16 Apr 1711, indicates she is the mother of the children of Thomas Stanton proved in other documents (New London District Probate Files, #5038 [FHL #1025050]). The will of Dorothy Lord of Hartford, 8 Feb 1669, proved 14 May 1675, mentions "my daughter Stanton." See abstract from Hartford District Probate in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:215-16 (FHL #974.5 P2m). Although her given name is not mentioned in the will, she is evidently Thomas Stanton's wife Anna, dau of Thomas and Dorothy Lord.
DEATH: Diary of Thomas Minor of Stonington in John A. Miner, ed, THE MINOR DIARIES, STONINGTON, CONNECTICUT, THOMAS 1653 TO 1684, MANASSEH 1696 TO 1720 (Ann Arbor, MI, 1976), 146 (FHL #1036221). Part 1, the diary of Thomas Minor, is a reprint of the 1899 edition. Reference to the exhibition of the estate inv of Thomas Stanton of Stonington, 6 Jun 1678, is found in New London Court of Trials, 3:107 (FHL #005138).

4363 BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Henry is listed as 44 yrs old on the passenger list of the ship "Elizabeth" from Ipswich to New England in 1634. He is listed next to Richard Kimball, aged 39 yrs, who had lived in Rattlesden, Suffolk (John Camden Hotten, THE ORIGINAL LISTS [New York, 1931], 280 [FHL #973 W2hot]). Both men settled in Watertown and are believed to be brothers, although proof has not been found. They may be the sons of Richard Kimball of Lawford, Essex, wheelwright, whose will, 29 Aug 1619-10 Sep 1619, mentions his eldest son Henry and other children, but names only Henry (Archdeaconry Court of Colchester, orig wills, box 8 #197 [FHL #091259]). Lawford borders Mistley, where Henry resided. And, like Richard, Henry was reportedly a wheelwright; although this, too, is unconfirmed. Richard Kimball of Watertown was also a wheelwright.

4364 BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Henry is listed with other proved sons of Henry Adams as "Henry Adams, Junior" in a petition to the General Court for the grant of a plantation, 1 Oct 1645 (Nathaniel B. Shurtleff, ed, RECORDS OF THE GOVERNOR AND COMPANY OF THE MASSACHUSETTS BAY, 5 vols.[Boston, 1853-54], 2:128-29 [FHL #974.4 N2s]). Also see land grant of 40 acres at Mt. Wollaston (Braintree) to Henry Adams, 24 Feb 1639/40, showing the family consisted of "10 heads." With Jonathan still in England, as shown by Aspinwall's notorial records, Henry would be required to make the "10 heads" (BOSTON RECORDS, 1634-1606, AND THE BOOK OF POSSESSIONS, 2nd Report Boston Record Commissioners [Boston, 1881], 2:49 [FHL #974.461 H2b]), and ASPINWALL NOTARIAL RECORDS, 1644-1651, 32nd Report Boston Record Commissioners, [Boston, 1903], 267 [FHL #974.461H2b]). The Henry Adams family was known to reside in the parish of Barton St. David, and it is presumed that his son Henry was born there about 1610.

MAR #1: WATERTOWN RECORDS, 8 vols. (Watertown, MA, 1894-39), 1:3:20 (FHL #014793).
MAR #2: Ibid, 1:3:65. The wife is called Susana Cocke [Cook] on mar rec. She is no doubt the widow of Gregory Cook who died in Watertown in 1690 (adm of estate, Middlesex Co. Probate Files, 1st series, #4992 [FHL #386061)]. Gregory married Susannah Goodwin there on 1 Nov 1681(WATERTOWN RECORDS, 1:3:50). 4366 BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. His age was 70 yrs on 23 Jun 1631 when he applied for a "license to pass beyond the sea" (Q.R. Miscell, 560-22, cited in Henry F. Waters, "Genealogical Gleanings in England," NEHGR,45[1891]:237 [FHL #974 B2ne]). He was given the age of 71 in 1632 and 76 in 1638 in the journal of John Winthrop, THE HISTORY OF NEW ENGLAND, ed James Savage, 2 vols. (Boston, 1825), 1:78, 260 (FHL #974 H2w). Stephen was probably a native of Hampshire, where he spent much of his life and where the surname is common.
MAR #1: No mar rec found. However, children were born to this wife before Stephen's mar to wife #2. She was probably a close relative to Rev. John Bate, Bachiler's successor as vicar of Wherwell, Hants. In 1614 Stephen Bachiler of Wherwell, his son Stephen, and James Bate of Wherwell, clerk, and others were accused of libelling George Wighley. During the hearing, John Bate called Stephen Bachiler, Jr, his cousin, a term frequently used for nephew as well as cousin (Star Chamber proceedings, James I 297/25, cited in Robert Charles Anderson, THE GREAT MIGRATION BEGINS, 3 vols. [Boston, 1995], 1:63-64 [FHL #974 W2a]). Further evidence that Stephen's first wife was a sister of Rev. John Bate is found in Court of Requests, REQ2/678/64, dated 2 Nov 1639, in which John Bate of Holland, son of Rev. John Bate, became indebted to Samuel Bachiler, a son of Stephen Bachiler, who was also living in Holland (cited in SANBORN SIGNATURES, 4[1988]:10-11 [FHL #929.27305 Sa51s]).
MAR #2: Abbots Ann, Hants par reg (FHL #1041195). Also see mar lic, 25 Feb 1623, calling Stephen Bachiler a minister of Barton Stacey and his bride Christian Weare, widow, of Andover (Arthur J. Willis, comp, HAMPSHIRE MARRIAGE LICENSES, 1607-1640 [London, 1960], 39 [FHL #942.27 K29wi]).
MAR #3: Abbots Ann par reg. The wife is called widow Helena Mason.
MAR #4: No mar rec found. Stephen Bachiler was apparently a widower living in Portsmouth, NH on 3 May 1647, when he wrote to John Winthrop that the plantation of Strawberry Bank (Portsmouth) assigned a widow to care for his family (COLLECTIONS OF THE MASSACHUSETTS HISTORICAL SOCIETY, 4th ser, 37[1865]:109 [FHL #974 B4m]). Stephen was married to Mary, possibly the widow mentioned above, by 9 Apr 1650, when the court ordered the couple to resume living together (RECORDS AND FILES OF THE QUARTERLY COURTS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 9 vols. [Salem, MA, 1911-75], 1:191 [FHL #974.45 P2e]). But this mar must have occurred in 1647 or 1648 because Mary Bachiler was granted a town lot on 14 Feb 1648 by the town of Kittery (YORK DEEDS, 18 vols. [Portland, ME, 1887-1910], 1:1:5 [FHL #974.195 R2m]). Mary was apparently the widow of Robert Beedle of Kittery. On 20 May 1641 Beedle was granted the identical lot in Kittery granted to Mary Bachiler in 1648 (Ibid, 1:2:11). Stephen Bachiler left his fourth wife in New England when he returned to England. She petitioned for divorce on 14 Oct 1656, stating that her husband had gone to England (Nathaniel B. Shurtleff, ed, RECORDS OF THE GOVERNOR AND COMPANY OF THE MASSACHUSETTS BAY, 5 vols. [Boston, 1853-54], 3:418 [FHL #974 N2s]). Mary had a dau Mary born abt 1650 who claimed to be a dau of Stephen Bachiler on 26 Mar 1673, when she was granted adm of his estate in New England (PROBATE RECORDS OF THE PROVINCE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE, 9 vols., repr of New Hampshire State Papers Series, vols. 31-39 [Bowie, MD, 1989-90], 1:141 [FHL #974.2 P2p]). However, it is known that Mary, Stephen's wife, cohabited with George Rogers of Kittery and produced a child about 1651. On 16 Oct 1651 George Rogers and Mary Bachiler, wife of Stephen Bachiler, were presented for adultery and sentenced to be whipped, Mary's sentence was to be carried out after her delivery, at which time she was also to be branded with the letter "A" (PROVINCE AND COURT RECORDS OF MAINE, 6 vols. [Portland, ME, 1928-75], 1:164, 170 [FHL #974.1 P2p]). Given the fact that Mary delivered a child of George Rogers in 1651/2 and that Stephen Bachiler and his wife were not living together in 1650, it appears more likely that Mary is a dau of George Rogers.
