BIRTH: Richard is called 2nd son in the will of his father, Robert Austin of Adisham, 23 Nov 1544, proved 5 Jan 1544/5, Consistory Court of Canterbury, reg wills, 19:38 (FHL #188842). Date and place of birth are approximations. The Boteler MS, a contemporary document, indicates Richard Austen of Wickham [Wickhambreux] married a daughter of Thomas "Danne" [Denne] of Adisham and had a son Robert, who married Margaret Ady and became mayor of Dover. The ancestral Richard Austen did, in fact, have such a son; hence the origin at Wickhambreux also appears likely (cited in "Wills and Notices of Austen of Kent," MISCELLANEA GENEALOGICA ET HERALDICA, new series, 2[1877]:339 [FHL #942 B2m]). Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR: No mar rec found. Agnes, "wife of Richard Austen the elder," was buried at Adisham, 28 Mar 1588 (Adisham par reg [FHL #1836197 item 9]). Agnes was apparently the daughter of Thomas Denne (a Denne) of Barham, who mentions the children of Richard Austen in his own will, 3 May 1552, proved 21 Sep 1552, Archdeaconry Court of Canterbury, reg wills, 28:25 (FHL #188933). As mentioned above the pedigree in the Boteler MS also indicates Richard Austen married a daughter of Thomas Denne. In addition, the will of Thomas Denne's son, Michael Denne of Ickham, 25 Aug 1594, proved 8 Sep 1594, refers to Valentine Austen of Adisham as a cousin, and makes him overseer of his will (Archdeaconry Court of Canterbury, reg wills, 37:198 [FHL #188850]). Valentine is the son of Richard Austen.
BUR: Adisham par reg (FHL #1836197 item 9). Also see the will of Richard Austen of Adisham, 21 May 1588, proved 13 Feb 1592/3, Archdeaconry Court of Canterbury, reg wills, 37:89 (FHL #188850). | Austen, Richard (I13310)

Date and place of birth are approximations. Although his father lived in Stoke Mandeville when he made his will, he wished to be buried in Bovingdon and bequeathed money to the church there. This strongly suggests that the elder Richard Gould came from Bovingdon. Moreover, his will states that his brother[name illegible, document torn] resided in Bovingdon. Since the widow of Richard Gould, Sr, wished to be buried in Stoke Mandeville, it seems likely that Richard moved to Stoke Mandeville from Bovingdon when he married his 2nd wife.

BIRTH: Richard is identified in the will of his grandfather Richard Hawes, of Princes Risborough, 14 Jun 1590, proved 17 Feb 1594/5, Archdeaconry Court of Buckingham, orig wills (FHL #1042503). He was apparently of age when the will was made in 1590; therefore, he was born before 1569. As his own will was made in 1665, Richard must have lived to a great age, or his grandfather failed to mention that Richard was a minor.
MAR #1: No mar rec found. Richard's wife Maudlin was bur on 18 Jan 1632/3 (W. G. Cruft, ed, "The Bishops' Transcripts of Great Missenden" [typescript, 1923-24], 18 [FHL #088593]).

DEATH: No death/bur rec found. See the will of Richard Hawes of Gt. Missenden, 9 Sep 1665, proved 11 Jan 1665/6, Archdeaconry Court of Buckingham, orig wills (FHL #088571). The will mentions grandchildren Obadiah and Hannah in New England, cousin Elizabeth Hatch in Aldenham, Herts, "my sisters dagter [sic]," cousin Bennett Hawes, son of Bennet Hawes, of Princes Rishborough, and other relatives.

BIRTH: Richmond Land Evidences, 1:275 (FHL #930837). Although recorded in Richmond, it is most probable that Susannah was actually born in South Kingstown. Deeds of the latter town show that Samuel Barber was residing in South Kingstown as late as 29 Apr 1728, when he sold property to his uncle Benjamin Barber. On the same date he purchased a 146 acre tract in Westerly from Benjamin Barber. Richmond was created in 1747 from part of Charlestown, which was created in 1738 from a part of Westerly. Hence, Samuel removed from South Kingstown to Westerly in 1728, which property became part of Richmond in 1747. He recorded his children in the latter place. See South Kingstown Land Evidences, 3:202, 203 (FHL #931300); Westerly Land Evidences, 4:240 (FHL #940223).
