She was previously the widow of John Kent of Suffield who married Hannah Marsh at Hadley, 1 Dec 1731 (Ibid, 2:1); intentions were recorded at Suffield, 23 Oct 1731 ("Suffield Births, Marriages, Deaths, 1674-1850," Barbour Collection [typescript, 1928; Conn. State Library, Hartford], 142 [FHL #002980]). John Kent died at Suffield, 24 Jun 1737 (Ibid), and Hannah apparently returned to Hadley where her family resided.

Donald Lines Jacobus indicates that she was the widow of Zachariah Long of Windsor, and a dau of John and Sarah Barber (Donald Lines Jacobus and Edgar Francis Waterman, HALE, HOUSE AND RELATED FAMILIES [Hartford, 1952], 686 [FHL #929.273 H135j]). There is some evidence in support of this identification. The mar entry in Springfield Congregational Church recs identifies Hannah Long as a widow (Ella May Lewis, ed, "Baptisms, Marriages, and Deaths, 1736-1809, First Church of Springfield" [typescript, 1938], 49 [FHL #974.426/S1 V2l]). The only Hannah Long found in the vicinity is the wife of Zachariah Long. On 26 Jul 1755, John Barber, Jr, of Springfield sold his house and land in Springfield to Zachariah and Hannah Long (Hampshire Co. Deeds [Springfield Reg], T:724 [FHL #844495]).

On 18 Mar 1779, Mary Hitchcock of Springfield, Bezaleel Sherman, and Abigail Sherman of Brimfield sold land in Brimfield to David Morgan, which originally belonged to Ebenezer Graves Jr. Mary and Abigail are children of Ebenezer Graves of Springfield and sisters of Ebenezer Graves, Jr. Abigail Graves and "Bazaliel" Sherman were married at Brimfield, 4 Feb 1731/4 (VITAL RECORDS OF BRIMFIELD, 194). Hence Mary, dau of Ebenezer Graves, married (1) Benjamin Morgan, (2) Ebenezer Hitchcock.

Joseph was married to Sarah as early as 18 Mar 1715 when she consented to a deed to Joseph's grandson, Samuel Leonard (Hampshire Co. Deeds [Springfield Reg], C:107 [FHL #844487]). She was apparently the widow of Joseph Crane who died at Wethersfield, the widow Sarah "Leonard" delivering an acct of her adm on 7 Jun 1714. She reportedly left the Connecticut Colony by 8 Jun 1714 when Joseph Kilbourn was granted adm of the estate in the Hartford District Probate Court. See abstract in Charles W. Hence, Joseph Day married Elizabeth Mattoon.

This is incorrect, as the will of Hezekiah Day proves that he was already dead by this date. See the will of Hezekiah Day of West Springfield, 8 Sep 1777, proved 6 Jan 1778, Hampshire Co. Probate, 13:118 (FHL #879190). The correct date was no doubt 11 Oct 1777, which is found on his gravestone, below.

DEATH: No death rec found. Timothy was living on 29 Mar 1676, when his mother was granted adm of his father's estate. However, he was dead by 30 Sep 1679, when his brother Thomas, "only surviving son of...Lt. Thomas Cooper," petitioned for distribution of his father's estate. At the same court Maj. John Pynchon sued Timothy Cooper for debt, there being no indication that he was dead. Therefore, it appears that Timothy must have died during the sitting of the court in 1679. See Hampshire Co. Probate, 1:167, 203, 204 (FHL #879184).
