MAR: VITAL RECORDS OF ROWLEY, 2 vols. (Salem, MA, 1928-31), 1:426 (FHL #974.45/R1 V28v). The entry calls the wife "Elizabeth Safford of Ipswich," but there is evidence that this was a clerical error for Rebecca Safford, Elizabeth's sister. Newbury vital records show that Nathan's wife was Rebecca as early as 1692 when their first child was born. Rebecca's age at death suggests a birth year consistent with Rebecca Safford's age. Finally, Elizabeth Safford married Alexander Lovell at Ipswich, 20 July 1697 (VITAL RECORDS OF IPSWICH, 3 vols. [Salem, MA, 1910-19], 2:384 (FHL #974.45/I2 V2c).
DEATH: He is probably the "N. Wheeler" who died on 15 Nov 1750, recorded in the private papers of Rev. Moses Hale of Byfield Church (VITAL RECORDS OF ROWLEY, 1:534). Moses Hale was married to Nathan Wheeler's dau Elizabeth. This date is also supported by probate records. See the will of Nathan Wheeler of Newbury, 18 Aug 1729, proved 26 Jul 1741, Essex Co. Probate, (o.s.) 324:475-77 (FHL #875132).

However, it seems far more likely that Mary, wife of Clement Corbin, is the dau of Thomas and Mary (Payson) Fillebrown. After the death of Thomas Fillebrown in 1751, Mary married Timothy Foster and removed to Dudley and Oxford, Mass., which border Killingly, where Mary Fillebrown and Clement Corbin were married. On 6 Oct 1774 this couple named one of their children Henry Payson Corbin, apparently in honor of Mary's uncle Henry Payson, who died in 1771.
