7211 CHR: Charles R. Strutt, ed, "Transcript of Terling Parish Registers, 1538-1840" (typescript, n.d.), 6 (FHL #962530). She was baptized "Ann" but was called Agnes in the will of her husband Nicholas Hawes of Terling, 4 Jul 1598, no probate act, Archdeaconry Court of Colchester, orig wills, box 3, #198 (FHL #091250). She is also called "Agnes" in the will of her father, John Hare of Terling, 10 Jan 1561/2, no probate act, Archdeaconry Court of Essex, reg wills, 144 Lupton (FHL #091213). Agnes and Ann were frequently interchanged at this time.

MAR #1: Kingweston BTs (FHL #1470920 item 20). Although there is no record of Aquila Purchase in New England, the diary of William Whiteway of Dorchester, Eng states that Aquila Purcess "went for New England" shortly after 26 Feb 1632/3. Whiteway's diary is in the Egerton ms in the British Museum and is quoted in J. Gardner Bartlett, HENRY ADAMS OF SOMERSETSHIRE (New York, 1927), 51 (FHL #929.273 Ad17bj).
MAR #2: No mar rec found. "Sarah Purchase Elder Oliver's daughter in law [step-daughter]" was admitted to the Boston 1st Church, 31 May 1646 ("Records of Admissions in the First Church Boston, 1630 to 1687" [transcript, n.d.], 80 [FHL #856694]). Sarah was baptized at Holy Trinity, Dorchester, Dorset, 6 Aug 1626, the dau of Aquila and Ann Purchase. Elder Oliver is Thomas Oliver, a Boston magistrate. The will of Thomas Oliver of Boston, 13 Mar 1652, proved 27 Jan 1657, mentions his wife but does not name her. Nevertheless, it is clear from the terms of the will that the widow was previously married and had grown children, also not named. See "Abstracts of the Earliest Wills on Record in the County of Suffolk, Mass.," NEHGR, 8(1854):351 (FHL #974 B2ne). The death record of widow Ann Oliver, 20 Dec 1662, no doubt belongs to the widow of Thomas Oliver. Hence, it is believed that Ann, wife of Thomas Oliver, was 1st married to a Purchase, apparently Aquila Purchase.

The Medfield home-lots of the Adamses and John Fussell in Medfield were adjacent. Furthermore, when the town of Medfield distributed copies of the "law book" of the colony in 1660, one copy was assigned to John Fussell, Jonathan Adams, Peter Adams, and Edward Adams, suggesting John Fussell was connected to Henry Adams' sons. See William S. Tilden, HISTORY OF THE TOWN OF MEDFIELD (Boston, 1887), 48, 66 (FHL #014773).

7235 CHR: Chilham par reg (FHL #1850344 item 2). No parents names are included in chr entry. Only two Austen families were having children at Chilham at this time. Henry and Anne Austen had children baptized in 1627, 1628/9, 1630/1, 1636, and 1639. Thomas and Jane Austen had children baptized in 1636/7, 1641/2, 1643, and 1645/6. Chronologically, it seems most likely that Henry (chr 1633) fits into the family of Henry and Anne. Moreover, the will of Thomas Austen does not mention a son Henry. Henry was no doubt the namesake of his father.
