CHR: Nazeing par reg by corr, Essex Record Office, Chelmsford, 1 Apr 1996. This identification with the New England immigrant is likely because Giles Payson of Roxbury, a contemporary of Edward Payson, is listed as a Nazeing resident, age 26, on the passenger list of the ship "Hopewell" in 1635 (Peter Wilson Coldham, THE COMPLETE BOOK OF IMMIGRANTS, 1607-1660 [Baltimore, 1987], 7 [FHL #973 W2col]). Giles's baptism on 14 May 1609 was also found in Nazeing par reg. Unfortunately, the parents of neither are included in their chr recs. Giles and Edward Payson lived in Roxbury for many years and were probably brothers.
