MAR: No mar rec found, but John was married and had a son John according to the will of his father (see note below).
DEATH: No death rec found. John was dead before the date his father's will, 19 May 1614.
NOTE: It has often been said that John married Margaret Balls at Starston, 19 Apr 1599. This seems unlikely, however. John was barely 17 years old in 1599. The mar rec calls him a widower of Redenhall ("Norfolk Marriages," pt. 5, Starston, 1561-1753 [transcript, n.d.; Norfolk Archaeology Society], 89 [FHL #890189 item 4]). Secondly, the will of Robert Fuller indicates that John was deceased with a son John. A John Fuller was in fact buried at Redenhall, 22 Dec 1608. His will names wife Margaret and children John, Thomas, and William (Consistory Court of Norwich, reg wills, 108:222-23 [FHL #094928]). One wonders why Robert left nothing to his other grandchildren. Furthermore, John's bur rec calls him "the elder." John, son of Robert was only 26 in 1608, and there were other John Fullers in Redenhall. It seems likely that the John Fuller, widower, who married Margaret Balls was one of the others and considerably older than the son of Robert.

DEATH: "Milford Births, Marriages, Deaths, 1640-1850," Barbour Collection (typescript, 1925, Conn. State Library, Hartford), 130 (FHL #002974). Duplicate entry gives death date of "13 Jul" 1655. 8050 CHR: Robert Dickinson, ed, THE REGISTER OF WINWICK PARISH CHURCH, Lancashire Parish Register Society, 113(1974):21 (FHL #942.72 K29pr). Entry gives a date of "28" Dec 1629 with notation that BTs give date of "26" Dec 1629. Original Winwick par reg confirms that "Jhn" Atherton was baptized on 26 Dec 1629 (FHL #1655875 item 3). He is called "Jonathan" on all later recs. The Winwick par reg is heavily abbreviated.
MAR: A REGISTER OF ALL THE CHRISTENINGES BURIALLES & WEDDINGES WITHIN THE PARISH OF ST. PEETERS UPON CORNHILL [LONDON], Publications of the Harleian Society, Parish Register Series, vol. 1 (London, 1877), 263 (FHL #942 B4ha). It is believed that this is the mar of Jonathan, son of Humphrey Atherton, because the will of his mother suggests that he was not in New England as late as 1672, and Jonathan was a mariner, which is the occupation of the Jonathan married at St. Peter's, Cornhill. No rec of his wife's name has been found in New England records.
DEATH: No death rec found. Jonathan apparently came to Boston where he is seen on deeds as early as 1673. He is last of record on 1 May 1677, when he sold land to his brother Increase Atherton (Suffolk Co. Deeds, 13:107 [FHL #493936]).
