MAR #1: No mar rec found. "Goodwife [Ann] Pearson" deposed in court, 13 Sep 1714, that she was 1st married to William Taylor, deceased, of Exeter (New Hampshire Court Files, #20207 [FHL #980229]).
MAR #2: "New Hampshire Court Records," NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE PAPERS, 40(1943):440 (FHL #1033745). Place of mar is not stated; probably at Exeter. That Ann, wife of William Taylor and George Pearson, is the dau of Humphrey Wythe is suggested by her identification as a sister in the will of Abigail Chadwell of Charlestown, 8 Jun 1683, proved 19 Jun 1683, Middlesex Co. Probate Files, 1st series #4096 (FHL #386051). Abigail's identification as a dau of Humphrey Wythe rests on her naming another sister Sarah "Wheeler," apparently Sarah, dau of Humphrey Wythe, who married David Wheeler. Furthermore, Thomas Jones, Abigail's 1st husband, had land dealings with Samuel Greenfield, who married Susannah, widow of Humphrey Wythe. Also see Sybil Noyes, Charles Thornton Libby, and Walter Goodwin Davis, GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY OF MAINE AND NEW HAMPSHIRE (Portland, ME, 1928-39; repr Baltimore, 1979), 536, 675, 773 (FHL #974 D2n).
DEATH: No death rec found. Ann was living on 13 Sep 1714 when she deposed in court, above.

MAR #1: No mar rec found. The will of Abigail Chadwell, wife of Thomas Chadwell of Charlestown, 8 June 1683, proved 19 Jun 1683, mentions her grandchildren Joseph Goose and Johanna Crosse, "his sister" (Middlesex Co. Probate Files, 1st series, #4096 [FHL #386051]). The will of Thomas Jones of Charlestown, 24 Sep 1666, proved 18 Dec 1666, mentions his wife Abigail, dau Susanna Goose, and "sonne" William Goose (Middlesex Co. Probate, 2:297-98 [FHL #521766]). William and Susannah (Jones) Goose are the parents of Joseph Goose and Susannah who married John Cross (Thomas Bellows Wyman, THE GENEALOGIES AND ESTATES OF CHARLESTOWN [Boston, 1879; repr, Somersworth, NH, 1982], 422-23 [FHL #974.46/C2 D2w]). Hence, Abigail married (1) Thomas Jones and (2) Thomas Chadwell. Evidence that Abigail, wife of Thomas Jones and Thomas Chadwell, is a dau of Humphrey Wythe is found in her will, above, which mentions her "sister Wheeler" and "sister Ann Pearson of Piscataway." Sarah Wythe, a proved dau of Humphrey Wythe, married David Wheeler. Humphrey Wythe also had a dau Ann. In addition, note the reference to the sale of land from Samuel Greenfield, husband to Humphrey Wythe's widow, to Thomas Jones and Benjamin Wythe (RECORDS AND FILES OF THE QUARTERLY COURTS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 9 vols. [Salem, MA, 1911-75], 2:377-78 [FHL #974.45 P2e]). See also Sybil Noyes, Charles Thornton Libby, and Walter Goodwin Davis, GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY OF MAINE AND NEW HAMPSHIRE (Portland, ME, 1928-39; repr Baltimore, 1979), 134, 388, 773 (FHL #974 D2n).
MAR #2: No mar rec found. See discussion, above.
DEATH: Roger D. Joslyn, ed, VITAL RECORDS OF CHARLESTOWN, 2 vols. (Boston, 1984-95), 1:119 (FHL #974.46/C2 V2j). Also see the will of Abigail Chadwell of Charlestown, 8 Jun 1683, proved 19 Jun 1683, inv 14 Jun 1683, cited above.

CHR: Wooten Wawen par reg (FHL #557151). Evidence that this chr belongs to the ancestor is found in several documents in New England. Edward stated that he was 77 years old in a deposition dated 15 May 1684 (Connecticut Archives, Private Controversies, 2:203, abstract published in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. [Hartford, 1904-1906], 1:60 [FHL #974.6 P2m]). This provides for a birth about the year 1607. On 9 May 1700 George Griswold, son of Edward, deposed that as a youth he lived with his father in Kenilworth, Warws and that the house belonged to his uncle Matthew Griswold (Estate file of Matthew Griswold of Lyme, Connecticut, New London Disrict Probate Files, #2333 [FHL #1025021]). Kenilworth is near the parish of Wooten Wawen. In another deposition, dated 19 Jan 1737/8, George Griswold and John Griswold, sons of George Griswold deceased, stated that they were grandsons of Edward Griswold of Kenilworth, Warws, and that it was accepted in the family that Edward was one of three brothers, sons of George Griswold (Edward E. Salisbury and Evelyn McCurdy Salisbury, FAMILY HISTORIES AND GENEALOGIES, 3 vols. [Privately printed, 1892], 2:5 [FHL #873825]).
MAR #1: No mar rec found. Children of Edward Griswold and wife Margaret are recorded in Kenilworth par reg, 1631-37 (FHL #555347). Also, Margaret, wife of Edward Griswold, died at Killingworth, Conn. ("Killingworth Births, Marriages, Deaths, 1667-1850," Barbour Collection [typescript, 1924; Conn. State Library, Hartford], 41 [FHL #002972]).
MAR #2: No mar rec found. Sarah, widow of Edward Griswold, is mentioned in agreement of the heirs of Edward Griswold of Kenilworth, 7 Jun 1694 (New London Deeds, 5:195 [FHL #005084]). The document shows that she is the mother of Rebecca Bemis who married Tobias Minter. The mar rec of Tobias Minter and Rebecca Bemis indicates she is the dau of James Bemis ("New London Births, Marriages, Deaths, 1646-1854," Barbour Collection [typescript, 1919; Conn. State Library, Hartford], 215 [FHL #005082]). Sarah was apparently the widow of James Bemis of New London who died in Jul 1665 (Elwood M. Avery, ed, "Marriage, Birth and Death Records from theTown Records of New London" [typescript, n.d.], 74 [FHL #974.65/N2 V2a]). Sarah's maiden surname is unknown. She is not the dau of John and Rebecca Dimond as alleged in Esther Griswold French and Robert Lewis French, THE GRISWOLD FAMILY (Wethersfield, CT, 1990), 13 (FHL #929.273 G889fe).
DEATH: No death rec found. Edward's death in 1690 is mentioned in French, THE GRISWOLD FAMILY, 13. Although no proof has been found, this date is widely accepted. He was certainly dead before 7 Jun 1694 when his widow Sarah made agreement with Joseph Wickham, above. He was living on 15 May 1684 when he made the deposition, above.

MAR #1: No mar rec found. Dousabell, wife of George Gressol, was buried on 28 Aug 1615 (Wootton-Wawen par reg [FHL #557151]).
MAR #2: No mar rec found, but existence of this wife is suggested by the depositions of John Griswold and George Griswold, sons of George, and grandsons of Edward Griswold the immigrant, 19 Jan 1737/8, in which it is stated that their grandfather Edward was the youngest of three brothers. The other brothers were Matthew and Thomas. Thomas was the youngest (Edward E. Salisbury and Evelyn McCurdy Salisbury, FAMILY HISTORIES AND GENEALOGIES, 3 vols. [Privately printed, 1892], 2:5 [FHL #873825]). Matthew testified in 1684 that he was about 64 years old (Connecticut Archives, "Private Controversies," 2:204, cited in Salisbury FAMILY HISTORIES, 2:3). Hence, Matthew was born after the death of the first wife, and Thomas was younger still. George's 2nd wife may be Sarah Cinderforde who married a George Grissold at Hampton-in-Arden, Warws, 30 Mar 1616 (E. B. Vallance, ed, "Warwickshire Parish Registers of Hampton-in-Arden" [typescript, 1942], 115 [#942.48/H1 V261]).

Evidence that this is the same Thomas who was baptized in 1579 is found in the will, which mentions his land called "Broomfields." This property is also mentioned in the chancery deposition of 17 Nov 1607, which declares the lands of Roger Greswold were to be sold to Thomas (Chancery Proceedings, PRO, C2 Jas.
