MAR #1: F. J. Wrottesley, ed, WEST BROMWICH PARISH REGISTER, Staffordshire Parish Register Society Publications, vol. 43 (n.p., n.d.), 30 (FHL #942.46 B4pr). West Bromwich is 8 miles from Yardley. Thomas and Mary Gilbert had a dau Mary baptized at Yardley, 12 Dec 1641.
MAR #2: No absolute proof of this mar is found, but it is strongly suggested by circumstantial evidence. A Lydia Gilbert was sentenced for witchcraft, 20 Nov 1654, for the death of Henry Stiles of Windsor. See Hartford County Court recs, 2:57 (FHL #004572). Thomas Gilbert also lived in Windsor and was employed by Stiles. See Homer W. Brainard, Harold Simeon Gilbert, and Clarence Almon Torrey, THE GILBERT FAMILY (New Haven, 1953), 14 (FHL #929.273 G377b). Shortly after Lydia's death sentence, Thomas Gilbert of Windsor married Katherine (Chapin) Bliss and removed to Springfield. For additional discussion, see Douglas Richardson, "The English Origin of Thomas Gilbert," TAG, 67(1992):163-64 (FHL #973 D25aga). Also see R. G. Tomlinson, WITCHCRAFT TRIALS OF CONNECTICUT (Hartford, 1978), 10-11 (FHL #974.6 H2tr), and John M. Taylor, THE WITCHCRAFT DELUSION IN COLONIAL CONNECTICUT, 1647-1697 (New York, 1908; repr Bowie, MD, 1989), 148-49 (FHL #974.6 H6t).
MAR #3: Springfield Vital Records, 1:14 (FHL #185414). Mar date is "31" June 1655. The intended date was probably 30 June 1655. The wife is called "Katheren Bliss." She is clearly the widow of Nathaniel Bliss who was bur at Springfield, 18 Nov 1654 (Ibid, 1:47). Nathaniel Bliss and Katherine Chapin were married at Springfield, 20 Nov 1646 (Ibid, 1:13). Also see the pre-nuptial agreement between Thomas Gilbert and Katherine Bliss, "Widow late wife of Nathaneel Bliss deceased," 23 May 1655 (Joseph H. Smith, ed, COLONIAL JUSTICE IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS [1639-1702]: THE PYNCHON COURT RECORD [Cambridge, 1961], 233 [FHL #974.4 P2c]).
DEATH: Springfield Vital Records, 1:47. Also see the will of Thomas Gilbert of Springfield, 3 May 1662, proved 30 Sep 1662, Hampshire Co. Probate, 1:18-19 (FHL #879184).

MAR #1: No mar rec found. The will of Katherine Belcher of Braintree, Mass., widow of Gregory Belcher, 3 Sep 1679, proved 20 Jul 1680, mentions her dau Elizabeth Gilbert (Suffolk Co. Probate, misc docket, [o.s.] 6:328-29 [FHL #584128]). She is probably the wife of Josiah Gilbert, as stated in Homer W. Brainard, Harold Simeon Gilbert, and Clarence Almon Torrey, THE GILBERT FAMILY (New Haven, 1953), 63 (FHL #929.273 G377b). Josiah had a wife Elizabeth who died at Wethersfield, 17 Oct 1682 ("Wethersfield Births, Marriages, Deaths, 1634-1868," Barbour Collection [typescript, 1927; Conn. State Library, Hartford], 117 [FHL #002982]). Moreover, the Gilbert family resided in Braintree near the Belchers before their removal to Westhersfield. See Joseph Gardner Bartlett, "The Belcher Families," NEHGR, 60(1906):128-29 (FHL #974 B2ne).
MAR #2: Pre-nuptial agreement between Josiah Gilbert and widow Mary Ward, 18 Oct 1681, Hartford District Probate, abstracted in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:448 (FHL #974.6 P2m). John Ward married Mary Harris, 18 Apr 1664 ("Middletown Births, Marriages, Deaths, 1651-1854, "Barbour Collection [typescript, 1923; Conn. State Library, Hartford], 468 [FHL #002974]). The heirs of Mary Gilbert, deceased, were legatees to the estate of William Harris of Middletown. See distribution of estate of William Harris, 3 Aug 1722, Hartford District Probate, abstracted in Manwaring, DIGEST, 2:398.
DEATH: No death rec found in Wethersfield vital recs. Death date and place are found in Brainard, GILBERT FAMILY, 63. Also see the inv of estate of Josiah Gilbert of Wethersfield, 29 Sep 1688, Hartford District Probate Files, #2171 (FHL #1020592). Additional estate recs are found in Manwaring, DIGEST, 1:448-51.

MAR: No mar rec found. A wife Elizabeth is mentioned in his will, below. That she is the dau of Jehu Burr and widow of Nehemiah Olmstead is apparent from the following recs: (1) The will of Obadiah Gilbert, below, gives to "daughter" Sarah Olmstead. (2) Agreement between widow Elizabeth Seeley and overseers of Obadiah Gilbert's estate, 14 Mar 1675: "Capt. Nath: Sely deceased in his life time married with Elizabeth the widow of Obadiah Gilbert and brought what estate was in her hands to her husband" (Fairfield Probate, 3:7 [FHL #004287]). (3) Agreement between Robert Seeley and Elizabeth Seeley, administrator of the estate of Nehemiah Olmstead, 15 Mar 1675. Robert Seeley claimed right to Obadiah Gilbert's estate by right of his wife Sarah, dau of Nehemiah Olmstead, deceased (Fairfield Deeds, 1:242 [FHL #004273]). (4) Record of the lands of Nehemiah Olmstead, deceased, 27 Jan 1671, includes parcels purchased of his "brother-in-law" Jehu Burr (Fairfield Deeds, 1:243 [FHL #004273]). Hence, Elizabeth Burr married (1) Nehemiah Olmstead, (2) Obadiah Gilbert, who made his stepdaughter Sarah Olmstead a legatee in his will, (3) Nathaniel Seeley, whose wife was clearly the widow Obadiah Gilbert and the adminsistrator of the estate of Nehemiah Olmstead.
DEATH: No death rec found. See the will of Obadiah Gilbert of Fairfield, 23 Aug 1674, proved 9 Mar 1674/5, inv 16 Sep 1674, Fairfield District Probate, 2:82 (FHL #004287).
