- BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Wherwell par regs are lost for the period. Nathaniel is identified in a court rec, 2 Nov 1639, Court of Requests, PRO, REQ2/678/64 (quoted in SANBORN SIGNATURES, 4[1988]:10-11 [FHL #929.27305 Sa51s]). This doc shows that Nathaniel was a merchant living in Southampton and that he is the brother of Ann, wife of Henry Atkinson of London, and Samuel Bachiler of Gorcum, Holland, two of the proved children of Rev. Steven Bachiler.
MAR #1: No mar rec found. See letter from Stephen Bachiler of London to his brother Nathaniel Bachiler of Hampton, NH, 23 Apr 1685, published verbatim in William H. Whitmore, "The Dalton and Batcheller Pedigree," NEHGR, 27(1873):368 (FHL #974 B2ne). This letter refers to Thomas Merceras "cousin" and to Francis Mercer as "uncle." Nathaniel Bachiler of Hampton is a grandson of Rev. Stephen Bachiler. See deed from Stephen Bachiler of Strawberry Bank (Portsmouth, NH) to his grandsons, 20 Apr 1647 (New Hampshire Province Deeds, 13:221 [FHL #015415]). The will of Paul Mercer of Southampton, 6 Jun 1661, proved 9 Sep 1661, refers to his brother Francis Mercer and his nephew Thomas Mercer as well as niece Anna, dau of the late Nathaniel Bachiler and wife Hester (P.C.C., May, 142 [FHL #092271]). It is clear that Nathaniel's wife Hester is the sister of Francis Mercer.
