Notes |
- CHR: Binfield BTs (FHL #1279450 item 25). Entry is partially illegible in Benfield par reg (FHL #088220). Francis is identified as a son of Richard Swaine of Hampton in a deed from Martha Leverich, "late wife of Francis Swaine (who was son of Richard Swaine late of Hampton)," to Nathaniel Weare and his wife Elizabeth of Hampton, 25 May 1669 (Old Norfolk Co. Deeds, 2:157 [FHL #873020]). Francis's birth year is calculated from age 14 on passenger list of the ship "Rebecca," from London to New England, Apr 1635 (Peter Wilson Coldham, THE COMPLETE BOOK OF EMIGRANTS, 1607-1660 [Baltimore, 1987], 135 [FHL #973 W2col]).
MAR: No mar rec found. The above deed shows that Francis's wife was Martha, later the wife of Caleb Leverich.
DEATH: No death rec found. See the adm of estate of Francis Swaine, 11 Apr 1665 (PROBATE RECORDS OF THE PROVINCE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE, 9 vols., repr of New Hampshire State Papers Series, vols. 31-39 [Bowie, MD, 1989-90], 1:83 [FHL #974.2 P2p]). These records do not mention the residence of Francis, but he apparently died at Newtown, Long Island (now a part of the Borough of Queens in New York City). He is called "late of Middleborough" in a deed from Martha Leverich to Nathaniel Weare, cited above. Middleborough, the old Dutch name for the town, was changed to Newtown by the British.
