She is called Elizabeth "Cate" in the will of her father, John Sherburne of Portsmouth, 17 Dec 1723, proved 16 Feb 1730/1 (PROBATE RECORDS OF THE PROVINCE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE, 9 vols., repr of New Hampshire State Papers Series, vols. 31-39 [Bowie, MD, 1989-90], 2:191-93 [FHL #974.2 P2p]). Elizabeth is called the wife of William Cate in Sybil Noyes, Charles Thornton Libby, and Walter Goodwin Davis, GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY OF MAINE AND NEW HAMPSHIRE (Portland, ME, 1928-39; repr Baltimore, 1983), 133 (FHL #974 D2n). However, no proof is found, and she may be confused with the Elizabeth Cotton who married William Cate at Portsmouth, 27 Dec 1722.
