DEATH: No death rec found. Seth died at sea, according to John J. Dearborn, HISTORY OF SALISBURY, NEW HAMPSHIRE (Manchester, NH, 1890), 524 (FHL #974.27/S1 H2d). This is supported by two deeds. On 14 Jun 1779 John Challis of Danville, "in behalf of his son now absent," agreed to divide a piece of land in Canterbury owned jointly by his son Seth Challis and Joseph Leavitt, Jr. (Rockingham Co. Deeds, 134:402 [FHL #016255]). John Challis sold the same property, "that was owned by my son Seth Challis supposed to be deceased," to Thomas Challis on 22 Aug 1781 (Ibid, 113:352 [FHL #016246]).
