- BIRTH: VITAL RECORDS OF NEWBURY, 2 vols. (Salem, MA, 1911), 1:51 (FHL #974.45/N1 V28v).
MAR #1: No mar rec found. Children of Joseph Bailey and his wife Priscilla are recorded in Newbury beginning in 1675. Priscilla died on 16 Nov 1704. Her gravestone in the Wadsworth Cemetery, Danvers identifies her as the dau of Capt. John Putnam, and wife of Joseph Bailey (VITAL RECORDS OF SALEM, 6 vols. [Salem, MA, 1916-25], 5:64 [FHL #974.45/S1 V2e]).
MAR #2: VITAL RECORDS OF NEWBURY, 2:41. The wife is called widow Sarah Sawyer. She was apparently the widow of John Sawyer, who married Sarah Poore at Newbury, 18 Feb 1675/6 (Ibid, 2:441). John Sawyer died at Newbury on 18 Mar 1688/9 (Ibid, 2:715).
DEATH: The death of Joseph Bailey at the hands of the Indians is recounted in Bartholomew Gosnold, HISTORY OF KENNEBUNK PORT (Kennebunk, ME, 1837), 114, 226 (FHL #974.195/K4 H2b). No confirmation was found in contemporary sources.
