- BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Joanna was probably born in Dartmouth abt 1655, where her siblings were baptized. The par regs of Dartmouth, St. Savior's have few chr entries during this period. Joanna is identified as the dau of Roger and Joane Deering in the will of her grandfather, Clement Palmer of Townstall, Devon, 20 Dec 1656, proved 20 Apr 1659, P.C.C., 221 Pell (FHL #092256). Joanna is also identified in the will of her grandmother, Sarah Palmer of Townstall, 12 Aug 1665, proved 14 Jun 1667, Archdeaconry Court of Totnes, abstracted in Charles E. Banks ms (FHL #1550098 item 32). The recs of this court were destroyed in 1942.
MAR: No mar rec found. Roger Deering and Joseph Couch sold land in Kittery, Maine to "our brother" Thomas Deering, 23 Mar 1709/10 (YORK DEEDS, 18 vols. [Portland, ME, 1887-1910], 7:197 [FHL #974.195 R2m]). Roger and Thomas are proved sons of of Roger Deering. Hence, Joseph Couch married a dau of Roger Deering. Her given name is rarely seen. She is apparently the Johanna Couch who witnessed a deed from Francis Morgan to John Bray, 1 Apr 1677 (YORK DEEDS, 3:24). It is known that Roger Deering had a dau Joanna. The only other dau of Roger Deering was Sarah who married Dennis Hicks.
DEATH: No death rec found. Joanna was dead by 15 Apr 1712, when Roger Deering appears in deed with his 2nd wife, Katherine (YORK DEEDS, 8:144).
