Notes |
- BIRTH: No birth rec found. A Joseph Couch and wife Anne had a dau Mary born at Kittery, 3 January 1696 (Joseph Crook Anderson, II and Lois Ware Thurston, VITAL RECORDS OF KITTERY, MAINE [Camden, ME, 1991], 9 [FHL #974.195/K1 V2v]). This Mary Couch married James Spinney at Kittery, 28 Dec 1718 (Ibid, 49). James Spinney received a portion in the division of the estate of Joseph Couch, Sr, in his wife's right, 21 Jul 1729 (York Co. Probate, 4:33-34 [FHL #012783]). Since, Joseph Couch, Jr, was dead by 1710, his portion apparently went to James Spinney, husband of the only child of Joseph Couch, Jr, proving that Joseph Couch, Jr, was a son of Joseph Couch, Sr. Date and place of birth are approximations based on family history and chronology.
MAR: No mar rec found. As shown above, Joseph had a wife Anne by 1696. She married 2nd to David Hill at Portsmouth, NH, 25 Oct 1710, as Anne Couch ("A Book Conteining ye Account of the Gathering & Carrying on ye Church of Christ in Portsmouth Anno 1671" [typescript, n.d.], 1:299 [FHL #015572]). Although the given name of the husband is not stated, he was apparently the David Hill, as who had a dau Anne by his wife Anne born at Kittery, 31 Jul 1711 (VITAL RECORDS OF KITTERY, 39). David Hill died before 6 Nov 1718, when Anne married Nicholas Weeks (Ibid, 49). A dau Anne Weeks and granddaughter Anne Hill are mentioned in the will of Margaret Adams of Kittery, widow of Christopher Adams, 30 Jun 1720, proved 23 Jan 1722/3 (William Sargent, ed, MAINE WILLS, 1640-1760, [Portland, ME, 1887; repr Baltimore, 1972], 235-38 [FHL #974.1 P2s]). Hence, Anne Adams married (1) Joseph Couch, (2) David Hill, and (3) Nicholas Weeks.
DEATH: No death rec found. As shown above, Joseph was dead by 25 Oct 1710, when his widow married David Hill.
