- BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Joseph Deering of Kittery is identified by a deed from his mother, Joan Crafts, 13 Jun 1703 (YORK DEEDS, 18 vols. [Portland, ME, 1887-1910], 7:128 [FHL #974.195 R2m]). Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR: No mar rec found. Children of Joseph Deering and his wife Mary were born at Kittery, 1698-1708 (Joseph Crook Anderson, II and Lois Ware Thurston, eds, VITAL RECORDS OF KITTERY, MAINE [Camden, ME, 1991], 23, 26 [FHL #974.195/K1 V2v]). Mary Deering is called "sister" in the will of Margery Pepperill of Kittery, widow of William Pepperill, 1 Jan 1739, proved 26 May 1741 (William M. Sargent, ed, MAINE WILLS, 1640-1760 [Portland, ME, 1887; repr Baltimore, 1972], 461-63 [FHL #974.1 P2s]). Margery Pepperill is identified as a dau in the will of John Bray of Kittery, 22 Jan 1688/9, proved 15 Jul 1690 (Ibid, 88-90). The will also mentions an unmarried dau Mary. The Mary Deering referred to in the will of Margery Pepperill could not be wife of Roger Deering, Joseph's eldest brother (who also had a wife Mary), because Roger was married before 1688/9, when John Bray's dau Mary was still single.
