- BIRTH: No birth rec found. Jane is identified as a dau of Ebenezer Jones in Charles Edward Banks, THE HISTORY OF MARTHA'S VINEYARD, 3 vols. (Boston, 1911-25; repr Edgartown, MA, 1966), 3:223 (FHL #974.494 H2b). No other Jones family is found on Martha's Vineyard at this time. Furthermore, Jane deeded land in Chilmark to Thomas Jones as an heir to Thankful Hillman on 30 May 1777 (Dukes Co. Deeds, 11:17 [FHL #911715]). Thankful was an unmarried aunt, sister of the Jane Hillman who married Ebenezer Jones, Jane's alleged parents. Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR: VITAL RECORDS OF CHILMARK (Boston, 1904), 57 (FHL #974.494/C1 V2v).
DEATH: No death rec found. Banks states that the family removed to Madison Co., NY (Banks, HISTORY, 3:436). Also see the Revoltionary War pension file of Jane's husband, Prince Skiff. Skiff stated on 26 Dec 1832 that he removed to Williamsburg, Mass. in 1777, then to Cambridge, NY abt 1787, and then to Madison Co., NY abt 1820, where he was then living in the poor house (Revolutionary War Pension Files, National Archives, #S11405 [FHL #972194]). There is no indication that his wife was living in 1832.
