- BIRTH: Caroline Lewis Kardell and Russell A. Lovell, Jr, eds, VITAL RECORDS OF SANDWICH, 3 vols. (Boston, 1996), 1:4 (FHL #974.492/S1 V2k). Entry is from Plymouth Colony records. The birth rec does not identify parents, but David is identified in the will of his father, Anthony Bessie of Sandwich, 10 Feb 1656, proved 3 Jun 1657, Plymouth Colony Probate, 2:1:51 (FHL #567794).
DEATH: David was killed by the Indians during King Philip's War. For the official account of the battle and the casualty list, see George Madison Bodge, SOLDIERS IN KING PHILIP'S WAR (Boston, 1906; repr Baltimore, 1991), 347-50 (FHL #974 M2b). Bodge records the name as Daniel Bessey of Sandwich, but admits that the paper was much worn and mutilated. This was no doubt David, who was mentioned in his father's will in 1657 but not his mother's will in 1693.
