Notes |
- BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR: No mar rec found. A wife Ann is mentioned in John's will, below. The will of widow Ann Pickworth of Manchester, 10 May 1682, proved 3 Apr 1683, shows that she is the mother of John's children (RECORDS AND FILES OF THE QUARTERLY COURTS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 9 vols. [Salem, MA, 1911-75], 9:79-80 [FHL #974.45 P2e]). John and Ann were apparently married in Plymouth before 6 Feb 1631/2, when Governor William Bradford of Plymouth Colony wrote to Governor John Winthrop of Massachusetts that John Pickworth "came but a soujournour to worke for a few weeks, in wch time be goate a wife, & so is longe since returned [to Massachusetts] duble, and hath no cause to complaine, except he hath goot a bad wife." The letter is quoted in its entirety in NEHGR, 2(1948):240-44 (FHL #974 B2ne). Bradford does not explain why he believed Ann was a bad wife. She is probably a dau of one of the Pilgrims of Plymouth, but her identity is obscure.
DEATH: No death rec found. See the will of John Pickworth of Manchester, 27 Jun 1663, proved 25 Nov 1663, inv 25 Aug 1663 (THE PROBATE RECORDS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 3 vols. [Salem, MA, 1916-20], 1:428-29 [FHL #974.45 P2p]).
