The will of Agnes Butcher alias Garrold [Garrold alias Butcher] of Ovington, 17 May 1618, proved 23 Jun 1618, identifies the children of George Garrold alias Butcher as her own (Archdeaconry Court of Middlesex [Essex & Herts Div], orig wills, box 3, #149 [FHL #094769]). She is identified as a daughter in the will of Joan Garrold of Ovington, widow of Thomas Garrold, 13 Feb 1564, proved 16 Mar 1564, Commissary Court of the Bishop of London (Essex & Herts Div), reg wills, 3:24 (FHL #094219). Joan is clearly the mother of Agnes, but it is not clear that Thomas Garrold is Agnes's father, as Joan may have been married previously. It is possible that Thomas is the father of George Garrold alias Butcher and that he married Joan as a second wife. In this scenario, Agnes would have married her step brother.
