Notes |
- BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations. Stonington Deeds show that Joanna Fleming, wife of Robert Fleming, of Stonington had children Thomas and Mary Rose, to whom she deeded land in Stonington on 18 Jul 1681 (Stonington Deeds, 2:61,62 [FHL #005593]). These deeds are very faded. See partial transcripts in Alfred L. Holman, BLACKMAN AND ALLIED FAMILIES (Chicago, 1928), 169 (FHL #929.273 B565h). The identity of the father of Thomas and Mary Rose is uncertain. On 20 Sep 1698, Joanna sued Caleb Fobes and Ebenezer Witter for the theft of two pewter dishes, one of which was inscribed with the initials TRJ (Holman, BLACKMAN, 169, citing New London Co. Court recs, 7:219). The initials may stand for Thomas Rose and Joanna, suggesting that Joanna's first husband was named Thomas, which was also the name of their son.
MAR: No mar rec found. See discussion, above.
DEATH: No death rec found. Thomas(?) Rose was dead by 17 Feb 1669/70, when Robert Fleming purchased land for his step-son, Thomas Rose (Stonington Deeds, 1:122 [FHL #005593]).
