Notes |
- BIRTH: Stonington deeds show that Joanna Fleming, wife of Robert Fleming, of Stonington had children Thomas and Mary Rose, to whom she deeded land in Stonington on 18 Jul 1681 (Stonington Deeds, 2:61,62 [FHL #005593]). These deeds are very faded. See partial transcripts in Alfred L. Holman, BLACKMAN AND ALLIED FAMILIES (Chicago, 1928), 169 (FHL #929.273 B565h).The identity of the father of Thomas and Mary Rose is uncertain. On 20 Sep 1698, Joanna sued Caleb Fobes and Ebenezer Witter for the theft of two pewter dishes, one of which was inscribed with the initials TRJ(Holman, BLACKMAN, 169, citing New London Co. Court recs, 7:219). The initials may stand for Thomas Rose and Joanna, suggesting that Joanna's first husband was named Thomas, which was also the name of their son. Date and place of Mary's birth is an approximation.
MAR: No mar rec found. Thomas Rose, Mary Parke, widow of Robert Parke, and their sons Robert and Hezekiah Parke, all of Preston, deeded land in Stonington to Thomas Atwood, 14 Jan 1718/9 (Stonington Deeds, 3:265 [FHL #005594]). This was apparently the land Thomas and Mary Rose received from their mother in 1681 (see deed, above). Also see the adm/inv of estate of Robert Parke, late of Groton, 30 Sep 1707, which lists 10 children, aged 22 yrs to 9 mos. Thomas Rose was appointed administrator of the estate (New London District Probate Files, #3964 [FHL #1025039]).
DEATH: No death rec found. Mary was living on 14 Jan 1718/9 when she made the above deed.
