Notes |
- CHR: Billingborough par reg (FHL #1450460 item 4).
MAR: No mar rec found. Joseph's widow, Phebe, is mentioned in his estate recs, below. She was apparently the sister of Thomas Bracey and John Bracey, both of Wethersfield, Conn. On 26 Apr 1661, Thomas Bracey, John Bracey, John Morray and wife Constance, and Joseph Dickinson and wife Phebe, all of Wethersfield, sold their interest in the land of their grandfather, William Bisby of London, lying at Wethersfield, to Samuel Martin. Samuel Martin and his wife Phebe of Wethersfield sold their interest in the property to Josiah Willard on 18 Feb 1661/2, Phebe being the dau of William Bisby (Wethersfield Deeds, 2:43-53 [FHL #005991]). Hence, Phebe, wife of Joseph Dickinson, is the sister of Thomas Bracey, John Bracey, and Constance Morray, and she is the dau of Phebe Martin, who was apparently previously married to a Bracey.
DEATH: Joseph Dickinson was one of 16 soldiers slain by the Indians at Northfield under Capt. Richard Beers. Official accounts of this action are found in George Madison Bodge, SOLDIERS IN KING PHILIP'S WAR (Boston, 1906; repr Baltimore, 1991), 130-33 (FHL #974 M2b). Also see the inv of estate of Joseph Dickinson of Northfield, presented 29 Mar 1676, Hampshire Co. Probate, 1:172 (FHL #879184); additional inv taken 31 Mar 1685 (Ibid, 1:250).
