MAR #1: VITAL RECORDS OF MEDFIELD (Boston, 1903), 151 (FHL #974.47/M2 V2n). Samuel Hinsdale was killed by the Indians at Bloody Brook near Deerfield, 18 Sep 1675 (George Madison Bodge, SOLDIERS IN KING PHILIP'S WAR [Boston, 1906, repr Baltimore, 1991] 135-37 [FHL #974 M2b]).
MAR #2: No mar rec found. On 26 Mar 1678 Mehitable Root, widow of John Root, deceased, exhibited his inv. Adm was granted to Thomas Root, Sr, and the widow Mehitable Root, and the court confirmed to her the lands of "her first husband Hinsdale" (Hampshire Co, Probate, 1:195 [FHL #879184]). On 27 Mar 1683, after marrying her 3rd husband, John Coleman, Mehitable and husband presented a petition relating to an account of the distribution of the estate of John Root, Mehitable's former husband, alleging that the inv included lands belonging to her 1st husband Samuel Hinsdale (Ibid, 1:228). John Root was killed by the Indians at Deerfield, 19 Sep 1677 (George Sheldon, HISTORY OF DEERFIELD, 2 vols. [Deerfield, MA, 1895], 2:202 [FHL #974.422/D1 H2s]).
