James was probably born in Cambridge, where John Coller is mentioned in the town recs in 1669, 1672/3, and 1673/4 (THE RECORDS OF THE TOWN OF CAMBRIDGE [Cambridge, 1901], 180,210,217 [FHL #974.44/C1 N2r]).
