Much of the information found on Jesse was provided by Nor ma MCandless, a grandaughter of Jonathan and Laura. She sta tes it was found in the Madera and Fresno county seats an d some through an interview with Mrs. Henry C. Dalton who r ecieved it by word of mouth from Daisy Roundtree, who was t hen in her eighties. Jesse's marriage I found through corre spondence with the Kentucky State Library. Names for the ch ildren on this list was found on the list "In the matter o f the estate of Jesse Hildreth." This list was in the posit ion of Ruth Hildreth Liston; Ruth told me that at one tim e (in the 1930's) a suit had been brought against (?), fo r a property settlement. Jesse was stated to have bough t a Spanish land grant, and worked it, on what is now the c ity of Pasadena. It appears that when he died the land wa s forfited.

Describes a severe storm in the San Fernando Mission, Eliza beth Lake, San Pedro area in which- "Old Mr. Jesse Hildret h could not find it in the dark, and had to camp with his m ules, when he had made his way a few miles toward the city."
