- MAR: Evidence of the mar of William Shepard and Experience Hart is cited in Gerald Faulkner Shepard, comp, THE SHEPARD FAMILIES OF NEW ENGLAND, ed Donald Lines Jacobus, 3 vols. (New Haven, 1973), 3:93-96 (FHL #929.273 Sh47j). Also see land grants laid out to John Shepard in Westfield to satisfy grants made to his father (not named) and his "grandfather Hart," apparently Edmund Hart, who died in Westfield in 1673. See "Land Grants and Highways From the Early Records of Westfield" (typescript, 1896), vol. 1, pt. 2, p. 59 (FHL #1502828). The estate recs of Edmund Hart indicate William Shepard owed a debt to the estate (Hampshire Co. Probate, 1:148 [FHL #879184]). Also see Clifford L.
