- BIRTH: No birth rec found. John Greet is mentioned as an heir to the estate of Edmund Hart in 1673 (Hampshire Co. Probate, 1:148 [FHL #879184]). John's wife is apparently the dau of Edmund Hart. Eight sisters of Elisha Hart of Windsor, a proved son of Edmund Hart, are mentioned (but not named) in his estate distribution, 6 Dec 1683, Hartford Probate District, abstracted in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, THE DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORD, 3 vols. (Hartford,1904-1906), 1:320 (FHL #974.6 P2m). John Greet had two children recorded in Westfield: Mary, born ca. 1668; and John, born 6 Jan 1670 ("A Record of Marriages, Births and Death in Westfield, Mass., Prior to the Year1700," NEHGR, 6 [1852]:266 [FHL #974 B2ne]). The dau Mary apparently married Zachariah Seymour at Wethersfield, Conn., 9 Feb 1687/8, as "dau of widow Mary Gritt" ("Wethersfield Births, Marriages, Deaths, 1634-1868," Barbour Collection [typescript, 1927; Conn. State Library, Hartford], 142 [FHL #002982]). Additional circumstantial evidence is found in Gale Ion Harris, "John and Mary (Hart) Greet of Westfield," TAG, 72(1997):42-48 (FHL #973 D25aga). Date and place of Mary's birth are approximations. Edmund Hart, Mary's father, came to Westfield from Weymouth in 1664.
