- BIRTH: Springfield Vital Records, 1:70 (FHL #185414).
MAR #1: William's 1st wife was Polly Day according to Thomas B. Warren, "Springfield Families" (typescript, 1935; Conn. Valley Historical Museum, Springfield, Mass.), 237 (FHL #014787). They are presumably the William Day and Mary Day married at Boston, Polly being a nickname for Mary (BOSTON MARRIAGES FROM 1700 TO 1751, 28th Report Boston Record Commissioners [Boston, 1898; repr Baltimore, 1977], 343 [FHL #974.461 V2b]).
MAR #2: "Westfield Marriage Records as obtained from the Files at City Hall" (typescript, 1937), unpaginated (FHL #974.426/W2 V2wm).
MAR #3: No mar rec found. Gravestone inscription in Barnard Cemetery, Sheffield, Mass., calls her "Rhoda Day, wife of Captain William Day." See Cynthia T. Hoogs, comp, SHEFFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS CEMETERY INSCRIPTIONS (Great Barrington, MA, 1987), 4 (FHL #974.41/S3 V3h). A monument erected to the memory of William Day by his grandson, James Day, in the Springfield City Cemetery states that Rhoda, wife of Capt. William Day, was the daughter of Major John Hubbell of Litchfield, Conn. She died 25 Jul 1795 at Sheffield, aged 47. The monument also states that the remains of William and Rhoda were removed to the Springfield Cemetery. Monument was viewed by Clifford Stott on 29 June 2000.
DEATH: From gravestone inscriptions cited above.
