Notes |
- BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations.
DEATH: Details of Alice's death with documentation are found in John Putnam Demos, ENTERTAINING SATAN: WITCHCRAFT AND THE CULTURE OF EARLY NEW ENGLAND (New York, 1982), 301, 346, 505 (FHL #974 H6d). Demos incorrectly states that Alice was executed at Windsor. This is corrected to Hartford by Gov. John Winthrop (James Kendall Hosmer, ed, WINTHROP'S JOURNAL, 2 vols. [New York, 1959], 2:323 [FHL #974 H2w]).
NOTE: Alice Young was the first woman known to be executed for witchcraft in New England.
