Sarah, John, Thomas, and Mehitable Meakins, all proved children of Thomas and Mary Meakins of Hatfield, are called grandchildren in the will of Sarah Bunce of Hartford, 19 Aug 1689, no probate act (died 1693), Hartford District Probate, abstracted in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:416 (FHL #974.6 P2m). For children of Thomas and Mary Meakins, see "Births, Marriages, and Deaths, [Hampshire] County Court," entries for Hatfield, 105, and Hadley, 70 (FHL #760648).

An account of Thomas Meakins' death at the hands of the Indians during King Philip's War is found in Daniel White Wells and Reuben Field Wells, A HISTORY OF HATFIELD (Springfield, MA, 1910), 79-80 (FHL #974.423/H2 H2w). It is incorrectly stated that Thomas's death occurred in Sep 1677 in "Births, Marriages, and Deaths [Hampshire] County Court," entries for Hatfield, p. 110 (FHL #760648). This date is disproved by the adm/inv of estate of Thomas Meakins, Jr, [of Hatfield], 29 Mar 1676; also see settlement of estate 30 Mar 1680, distribution 3 Nov 1693. (Hampshire Co. Probate, 1:165, 206; 3:15 [FHL #879184]).
