- BIRTH: "Births, Marriages, and Deaths [Hampshire] County Court," entries for Hatfield, p. 96 (FHL #760648). Birth entry gives date of 12 Jan 1674, which is obviously incorrect. The births of the children of Thomas and Mary Meakins are listed together, with John's birth out of order with the others. Furthermore, the distribution of his father's estate, 3 Nov 1693, indicates John is the eldest son (Hampshire Co. Probate, 3:15 [FHL #879184]). Therefore, John's birth must precede that of his brother Thomas, who was born on 8 Nov 1673. John's birth was almost certainly in 1671/2.
