- BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Joseph was a legatee in the agreement of heirs of Joseph Loomis of Windsor, 2 Dec 1658, Hartford District Probate, abstracted in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:135-36 [FHL #974.6 P2m]). He is mentioned 1st, probably indicating he is the eldest son. Date and place of birth are approximations. Joseph's birth in Braintree is suggested by the family's continued residence in the town from at least 1617-1635. Joseph's father, Joseph Loomis, is called "of Braintree" in the will of Joseph's grandfather, Robert White of Messing, 27 May 1617-20 Jun 1617, Archdeaconry Court of Colchester, orig wills, 8:40 (FHL #091258). Furthermore, Joseph Loomis was a member of the Braintree parish vestry from 1619-1635 (F. G. Emmison, EARLY ESSEX TOWN MEETINGS [London, 1970], 11-50 passim (FHL #942.67 K2e).
