- BIRTH: No birth rec found. John is identified in the will of his father, Luke Hitchcock of Wethersfield, 17 Oct 1659, no probate act, Hartford District Probate, abstracted in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:129 [FHL #974.6 P2m]). Date of birth is calculated from age 58 on deed, dated 28 Feb 1705/6 (Hampshire Co. Deeds [Springfield Reg], B:126 [FHL #844486]). Place of birth is suggested by residence of his father in Wethersfield in 1647. Lands were laid out to Luke Hitchcock on 1 Mar 1647 (Wethersfield Deeds, 1:71 [FHL #005991]). Luke apparently left New Haven before 5 Jun 1646, when he appeared on a jury in Connecticut Colony (J.H. Trumbull and Charles J. Hoadly, eds, THE PUBLIC RECORDS OF THE COLONY OF CONNECTICUT, 15 vols. [Hartford, 1850-90], 1:140 [FHL #974.6 N2c]). New Haven was at that time not in the jurisdiction of Connecticut.
