- BIRTH: No birth rec found. Date of birth is calculated from age 15 on chr rec, below. Place of birth is unknown, as it is uncertain where the family was residing in 1642. Matthew Woodruff was in the Conn. Colony by 1 Jun 1643 when he was a defendant in a law suit, but town of residence is not stated (J. H. Trumbull and Charles J. Hoadly, eds, THE PUBLIC RECORDS OF THE COLONY OF CONNECTICUT, 15 vols. [Hartford, 1850-90], 1:87-88 [FHL #974.6 N2c]). The family was in Farmington by Feb 1653 when Matthew purchased his homestead (Susan Woodruff Abbott, WOODRUFF GENEALOGY [Milford, CT, 1963], 1 [FHL #929.273 W86a]).
