- BIRTH: Mary was listed as 12 years old on inv of estate of her step-father, Thomas Dewey of Windsor, 19 May 1648, Hartford District Probate, abstracted in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:6-7 (FHL #974.6 P2m). Her mother married Thomas Dewey as Frances "Clark." She was apparently the widow of a Clark, but not the widow of Joseph Clark, as it is has sometimes been stated. See Adelbert M. Dewey, THE LIFE OF GEORGE DEWEY (Westfield, MA, 1898), 288 (FHL #824302). Joseph Clark died in 1641 and his wife (not named) died on 3 Apr 1639 (SOME EARLY RECORDS AND DOCUMENTS OF AND RELATING TO THE TOWN OF WINDSOR, 1639-1703, "The Matthew Grant Record, usually called the Old Church Record," [Hartford, 1930], 77, 79 [FHL #974.62/W1 N2c]).
