Notes |
- CHR: Black Notley par reg (FHL #1472588 item 23).
MAR: No mar rec found. Wife Frances and "son" John Chester are mentioned in Edward's will, below. The will of Frances Stebbing of Hartford, 20 May 1670, proved 20 Jan 1673/4, also mentions her son John Chester, "now living in or neer unto London in old England," also John Chester's sons John and Sampson. See abstract of will from Hartford District Probate in Charles W. Manwaring, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:238 (FHL #974.6 P2m). She is no doubt the Frances Tough who married Sampson Chester at St. Anne's Blackfriars, London, 26 Nov 1617. They had children, among others, John Chester, baptized at St. Mary Magdalen's, Bermondsey, Surrey on 23 May 1621. This and other evidence that Edward Stebbing's wife was the dau of Ralph Tough and the widow of Sampson Chester is discussed in John Insley Coddington, "The Family of Frances (Tough) (Chester) (Smith) Stebbing, Wife of Edward Stebbing, of Hartford, Conn.," TAG, 30(1954):193-201 (FHL #973 D25aga).
DEATH: No death rec found. See the will of Edward Stebbing of Hartford, 24 Aug 1663, proved 3 Sep 1668, inv 19 Aug 1668 (Manwaring, DIGEST, 1:237-38).
