- BIRTH: No birth rec found. Mercy is identified in the will of her father, David Moore of Exeter, 7 Nov 1804, proved 2 Jan 1806, Exeter Probate, 7:98 (FHL #932355). Date and place of birth are approximations based on family chronology and probable age at marriage.
MAR #1: "Marriages Performed by Edward Perry, Justice of the Peace, Richmond [RI], July 17, 1757 to January 4, 1775," in James N. Arnold, VITAL RECORDS OF RHODE ISLAND, 1636-1850, 1st series, 21 vols. (Providence, 1891-1912), 10:308 (FHL #974.5 V2a). Although this transcript calls the wife "Mary," George Webb, Jr, of Richmond and his wife "Marcy" (i.e. Mercy) sold land in Richmond to John Phillips of Hopkinton, 24 Feb 1784 (Richmond Land Evidences, 4:369-70 [FHL #930838]). Moreover, the marriage entry also shows that the husband was George Webb, "Jr." Marcy was sometimes in correctly interpreted as Marey/Mary.
MAR #2: No mar rec found. She is called Mercy "James" in her father's will, above. Mercy was apparently the wife of Ezekiel James of Richmond, whose deed to Joshua R. Lock, 9 Mar 1805, was consented to my his wife Mercy (Richmond Land Evidences, 5:21 [FHL #930839]).
DEATH: No death rec found. Mercy was living in Richmond on 23 Mar 1822 when she and her husband Ezekiel James sold land in Richmond to John Webb (Richmond Land Evidences, 6:438 [FHL #930839]). She is not mentioned in the estate administration of Ezekiel James of Richmond, 1 Sep 1825, or in the receipts of heirs in 1826 and 1828 (Richmond Town Council and Probate, 5:172-73, 385-86; 6:8 [FHL #930848]). Hence, she apparently died between 23 Mar 1822 and 1 Sep 1825.
