Notes |
- BIRTH: No proof of birth found. Benjamin's death preceeded his father's. It is known that he was a soldier from Duxbury at the time of his death at the hands of the Indians (see below). No other Soule family is known to have existed in the colony at this time. There can be little doubt, therefore, that Benjamin is a son of George. Date of birth is suggested by Gov. William Bradford's statement of 1650/51 that George Soule was the father of 8 children (BRADFORD'S HISTORY "OF PLIMOTH PLANTATION" (Boston, 1901), 535 (FHL #974.4 H2bwb). Since 8 children have already been identified, it is presumed that Benjamin was born after Bradford's statement.
DEATH: George M. Bodge, SOLDIERS IN KING PHILIP'S WAR (Boston, 1906; repr Baltimore, 1991), 347-350 (FHL #974 M2b). Benjamin died in "Pierce's Fight" near present-day Pawtucket, RI.
