- BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. John was listed as 17 yrs old and a native of Northamptonshire at matriculation, Magdalen Hall, Oxford, 28 Apr 1615 (Joseph Foster, ALUMNI OXONIENSES, series 1, 4 vols. [Oxford, 1891-92], 3:996 [FHL #942.57/O1 J2ox]). He may be the son of John Mayo of Thorpe Mandeville, Nhants. See evidence in Philip T. Nickerson, "More About Rev. MAR #1: First wife is unknown, but it is suspected that John was married prior to his marriage to Tamasin. The wording of John Mayo's estate settlement, below, suggests that Tamasin was not the mother of his children. It is likely that she was the widow of William Lumpkin of Yarmouth, whose will, 20 Jul 1668, proved 24 Jun 1671, mentions a wife Tamasin (Plymouth Colony Probate, 3:1:30 (FHL #567794). Moreover, William Lumpkin's dau Tamasin married Samuel, son of Rev. John Mayo.
